The NFC Least

With a lot on the line last week for the NFC West none of the teams came through. The NFC West was 0-4 last week while being outscored 120-50. The NFC West is becoming the laughing stock of the NFL. The NFC West is now 10 games under .500 at 15-25, and they are also 9-19 when playing outside of their division. The NFC West is the only division which all of the teams have a negative net points total. The West also has the worst road record in the NFL at 3-17. Last week the Seattle Seahawks had a chance to gain a two game lead in the division but they let up 27 points by half time and almost 500 yards of offense in their game with the New Orleans Saints. Everyone was talking about the San Francisco 49ers and their chance to pull within a game of first place. Well the 49ers were manhandled at home and shutout by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who only had 3 wins in 2009. The St. Louis Rams who could have gotten into a tie for first place played fairly well against the Atlanta Falcons for three quarters but still lost by 17 points at home. Then comes the Arizona Cardinals who are a shell of themselves without Kurt Warner. The Cardinals were quickly dispatched by the upstart Kansas City Chiefs who only had four wins in 2009. This week three of the four play on the road, luckily the 49ers play at Arizona so at least one NFC West team will find a victory. All of these teams seem soft and are without the playmakers capable of winning games for them. Also the NFL is all about playing 60 minutes of football and so far none of these teams seem to have the mental makeup to do that. We need to expect and want more from the St. Louis Rams and the NFC West. Competition makes everyone better and all of these teams are still in need of a lot of improvement.

Roger Craig Can Suck It

Sunday Roger Craig former San Francisco 49ers great said on Fanhouse "The 49ers are the perfect team to annihilate the NFC West." When asked about the NFC West Craig replied "They're (the 49ers) gonna be strong contenders this year. You think about Kurt Warner's not with Arizona anymore. They're gonna be rebuilding. Anquan Boldin is gone, and Pete Carroll's gonna have a tough time first year. He's gonna come out the gate and not really dominate the West. So 49ers are a perfect team to annihilate the West."

Well although Roger may be correct that the 49ers may win the NFC West in 2010 I still want to tell him to suck it, mainly because I am a Rams fan and we hate the San Francisco 49ers. In addition let's not talk smack about a team that has not had a winning season since 2002! Thats right Roger the 49ers have not had a winning season since 2002 when they went 10-6 and won the NFC West. To say the 49ers will annihilate the West is a little overhype from Roger. There are only four teams in the NFC West he could have at least mentioned the Rams, the NFL is all about on again given Sunday correct?

P.S. Roger, Alex Smith is the 49ers QB and he sucks it too!

St. Louis Rams Sacked 28-6 In Finale

Well the St. Louis Rams did not disappoint today. In one of the most boring games ever watched (be thankful it was blacked out) The Rams were sacked 8 times, and blown out 28-6. The Rams not only lost their 15th game of the year and 42nd in 3 years, they also set the record for worst record in Rams franchise history going 1-15.

As bad as the St. Louis Rams have been on offense they managed to be worse today. Even with Steve Jackson playing the Rams could not do anything. On their first five drives of the game the Rams totaled 3 yards! Three! How bad was this game? The Rams who only had 72 yards of offense in the first half went into halftime with a 3-0 lead over the San Francisco 49ers. Never fear the Rams second half offense showed up as it always does. The Rams longest drive of the second half was 8 yards! Did I mention the Rams could do nothing on offense? Poor Donnie Jones was forced to punt 11 times. The Rams totaled 109 yards for the game!

Former Missouri stand out Justin Smith burned the Rams for 3.5 sacks, he had only 2.5 for the entire season. I don't care how many players are hurt on this team, they absolutely can not block. From the center out to the TE's and back to the running backs none of them can block. Unless Suh can play O-line as well as D-line this team is still going to have serious issues in 2010.

The 49ers who looked disinterested in the first half managed 28 second half points once they started testing the Rams secondary. It amazes me that teams do not just pass play after play against the Rams corners. Alex Smith who had 23 yards passing at half time finished with 222 yards, a TD, and a QB rating of 97.6.

The Rams season is finally over. Are we any better than in 2008? We cleared out some veteran players that is about the only difference I see at this point. We still have holes at every position except RB, where we still need a quality back, not a quality back up, a quality back. It is still too early for Devaney, Spags, and the other coaches but I am not impressed so far. For a closing thought, please do not tell me the Rams played hard today, that should be a given, the Chiefs scored 44 points on the road in a game they could have written off. That is playing hard, please see the difference.
