Rams Fans Lets Fill The Dome

Ok St. Louis Rams fans it is time to fill the Edward Jones Dome. The Rams went out and got franchise quarterback Sam Bradford in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Rams have won three straight home games for the first time since 2004! Thanks to the Rams and sponsors all fans have been able to see the first four home games even though the average attendance is 52,400. The Edward Jones Dome has a capacity of 66,965 but can hold up to 70,000 fans. It is time to fill the dome and make some noise this week against the Carolina Panthers (1-5). This weeks game will be played on Halloween which will give fans a great chance to express themselves. A win would put the Rams at 4-4 entering the bye week. Lets fill the dome!

St. Louis Rams Drop One 18-17 In Tampa Bay

The St. Louis Rams led most of the day against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium only to lose the lead with 10 seconds remaining. The Buccaneers drove 81 yards on their last drive and capped it off with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Cadillac Williams from Josh Freeman. This is a very tough loss for the Rams who once again had a 17-3 lead during the game only to see the Buccaneers come back for the victory.

The Rams continue to miss opportunities to put teams away. The Buccaneers fumbled twice and the Rams were unable to recovereither one. In addition the Rams continue to drop interceptions. On one play the ball was up in the air for a few seconds as both James Laurinaitis and Bryan Kehl watched it come out of the sky. Both reached for the ball and in fell to the ground as they both looked on in disbelief. The Rams who already lead the league in dropped passes must also lead the league in dropped interceptions.

The St. Louis Rams must learn how to win on the road and how to dominate and put teams away in the second half of games. The Rams road woes continue as they have now lost 14 of last 15 road games. The Rams who led 17-6 at the half were unable to
score in the second half. The Rams have scored a total of three points in the second half over the past three weeks. In this era of the NFL you simply have to score more points on a consistent basis to win. The Rams have now scored 20 or less points in 13 of their last 14 games. The Rams had less than 100 total yards of offense in 2nd half against San Diego and Tampa Bay.

With the Rams leading 17-12 and 4:45 remaining the Buccaneers started from their own 19 yard line needing a TD to take the lead. The Buccaneers had a huge 15 yard penalty against them after the two minute warning the the Rams had them facing a 1st
and 22 from the Rams 49. The Rams played a little soft and Tampa got in position for a 4th in 3 from the Rams 30 with 1:12 remaining in the game. Josh Freeman hit Kellen Winslow for a 9 yard gain down to the Rams 21 and the Rams were in trouble. The
Rams forced one more 3rd and long (10) but Freeman once again made a play when he found Mike Williams for a 20 yard gain down to the Rams 1, the Rams missed several tackles on the play. After an incomplete pass Freeman then found Cadillac Williams for the game winner.

Congrats to Steven Jackson who had 110 yards on the ground on 22 carries and passed Eric Dickerson on the all-time Ramsrushing list. Sam Bradford struggled on the day even though he had two touchdown passes he was only 13 of 26 for 126 yards. Bradford completed only 6 passes for 48 yards in the second half and only seven receptions for 55 yards to wide receivers in the game. The Rams continue to struggle to get the ball down field and to score points. The Rams need to stay positive and get their confidence back up next week against the Carolina Panthers (1-5). If the Rams can beat Carolina they will enter the bye week at 4-4 and will have won games than the past three seasons.

Rams vs. Buccaneers Game Preview

With the Chargers coming off a terrible 35-27 loss to the Oakland Raiders and the Rams 44-6 drubbing to the Lions, last week not even the Amazing Kreskin or the most hard core St. Louis Rams fan would have predicted that the St. Louis Rams would completely dominate the San Diego Chargers. However the St. Louis Rams did dominate and beat the Chargers 20-17 to go 3-3 on the season.

Today is Steven Jackson day in Tampa Bay! Steven Jackson needs 32 yards to pass Eric Dickerson for 1st place all time in Rams history when he reaches 7246 yards rushing. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 31st against the rush so look for Jackson earn the record early in the games against the Bucs.

With a chance to get to 4-3 on the season this is easily the biggest game for the Rams since 2006. The Rams really need a win here. The Rams only road win in 2009 was against the Detroit Lions, and that is the Rams only road win in their last 15 attempts. A win over the 3-2 Buccaneers and a home win over the currently winless Carolina Panthers would give the Rams a chance to go into the bye week at 5-3!

The Buccaneers are very similar to the St. Louis Rams. The Buccaneers are very young and are 3-2 and looking at this as a huge game for them as well. The Bucs young QB Josh Freeman continues to play well and has a 83.4 QB rating much higher than Sam Bradford who is still ranked 30th in the NFL so do not overlook the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers also have a very young and unknown wide receiving core in Mike Williams, Sammie Stroughter, Arrelious Benn and Micheal Spurlock, much like the Rams.

Sam Bradford who has given the St. Louis Rams a ton of confidence, and rookie wide receiver Danario Alexander will continue to look to make some big plays against the Buccaneers today. The Buccaneers have only four interceptions for the season. That along with the improved play from the Rams offensive line and the balance of Steven Jackson running against the 31st ranked rushing defense should buy Bradford and the Rams passing game a lot of time in the pocket. Look for the Rams to be very balanced and continue to use play action passing and roll-outs for Bradford to make some plays down field.

This is the game Rams fans have been waiting for. Sure it is the Buccaneers and not the Steelers but at this point we will take any win we can get and build off of it. I look for the Rams to play a complete and smart road game today. The Rams still rank 28th in points scored so they will try to keep the game close. The running of Steven Jackson and 3rd down conversions will be huge. I look for the clock to move fast in the first half and the Rams to try and get deep into the game with a chance to win.

As Vinnie Sees it- Week 7 Vince Vitale

Injuries to Vince Young and Malcom Floyd cost me what I thought would be at least a 70+ point week. After getting only 54 points last week and falling into 11th place I need to be spot on this week and get some luck as well. Joe Flacco has four straight double digit point outings and is going up against the Buffalo Bills, I can't think of a better time to use him. The Bills are the worst team in football and the Ravens are coming off a lost to New England on the road and will be playing at home. Look for the Ravens to put a pasting on the Bills this week. After making two great picks last week with LaDainian Tomlinson & Rashard Mendenhall, I need to make the correct decisions this week as well. Ray Rice who has 55 carries in the last two weeks is a no brainer pick against the Buffalo Bills. I like Steven Jackson against Tampa Bay but I am going to save him for next week when he will be at home against the Carolina Panthers. Instead I have selected Jamaal Charles who is averaging over 6 yards per carry and should torch the Jaguars defense. I wish the Chiefs would give him 25 carries one week and see the total damage he could create. While I do like Boldin against the Bills this week I do not want to put every egg in the same basket. I am going to go with Jeremy Maclin on the Eagles with DeSean Jackson out he should have a solid game against the Titans pass coverage. For my second selection I will be going with Brandon Lloyd the most consistent fantasy point provider this year at home against the Oakland Raiders. At TE I am going with Ben Watson on Cleveland. The Cleveland Browns should trail the entire game against New Orleans and Ben should continue to get a lot of looks and dump off throws from Colt McCoy. Watson has been a fantasy surprise and has 5 straight games with at least 45 yards receiving. I think the Chiefs will continue to score some points this week against Jacksonville so I am going to go with Ryan Succop for my kicker. I hope to get at least 70+ points out of this lineup and to climb back into the top 10 through 7 weeks of play. Check in next week to see if my selections paid off.

As Vinnie Sees it- Week 6 Vince Vitale

Last week (5) - I blew it!! I used up Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne
against the undefeated Chiefs. The Chiefs shutdown the Colts and held them
without a passing touchdown. I knew last week was a good week to pick on the Rams or take a David Gerard or Joe Flacco but I did not. Now I will really have to scramble to find points. The good news is I was still able to score
74 points thanks to 18 from kicker Josh Scobee, who says kickers don't matter. Those 74 points actually allowed me to move from 10th to 9th overall in the Blogger/Celebrity/Expert League. It is already tough finding good
running back match-ups and we are only 5 weeks into the season. This league forces you to find and use 34 different running backs. I still want to stay in the top 10 but not use all of the top talent. This week I am going to
roll out Vince Young and hope for a double digit effort and some running yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags have allowed 12 passing TDs already. At running back I am not happy with the match-ups but I am going to take Rashard Mendenhall against the Cleveland Browns who have not allowed a rushing TD this season! With Big Ben back I think Rashard will pound the rock and hopefully get a TD on the ground. My other back will be LaDainian Tomlinson. I really want to play him at home but he looks to be a good play at Denver. LT is the best running back I have seen this year. He looks super quick and has always been a TD machine. I like Matt Forte against Seattle but the Seahawks are playing great against the run holding backs to 2.8 yards per carry so we are going to save him for a rainy day. At WR I am going to go with the red hot Malcom Floyd, there is no way the St. Louis Rams can matchup with him. On the other side I am going with Hakeem Nicks, you just have to pick on teams in this league and it is time to pick on the Lions again since the Bills are off this week. At TE we are going to roll out Vernon Davis against the Raiders. If the 49ers ever needed a win it is now against their cross town rival the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are near the bottom of NFL pass defense and Davis should be Alex Smith's number 1 target this week. At kicker we are going to go with Neil Rackers of the Houston Texans against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Texans always score a lot of points and the Chiefs defense is playing very tough forcing the Colts to kick 4 field goals last week. We would like to see more of the same this week. Check in next week to see if my selections paid off.

Week 5 Suicide Fantasy Football Results

I am playing a great new fantasy football game called Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker but you can only use each player once during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

Last week I scored 74 points and moved into 9th place out of 36 in the celebrity blogger league. My Week 5 starters were QB Peyton Manning, RBs Frank Gore & Maurice Jones-Drew, WRs Reggie Wayne & Calvin Johnson, TE Brandon Pettigrew and K Josh Scobee. It was a terrible week to use Indianapolis Colts, I was very lucky that Josh Scobee put up 18 points. I will look to stay in the top 10 with another big week this week. Stay tuned for my picks.

Wish me luck, and check out Suicide Fantasy Football.

Rams Run Over In Detroit Motor City

43 of 46 fans that voted on my site this week picked the St. Louis Rams. As I stated I was very worried about this game for the Rams. Las Vegas had the Detroit Lions a one point favorite but betting in Vegas pushed it to three. Why was everyone else thinking the Rams would lose. Well it took only six seconds in this game to get more worried. For some reason the Rams started the game with an on-side kick which did not fool the Detroit Lions. David Vobora was injured on the kickoff as well. On the following two plays the Rams were called for offsides and then defensive holding. Nobody could ever imagine that this was just the start of what would be a embarrassing 44 to 6 loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Rams actually seemed to dominate the first quarter with a huge edge in total yards and two trips inside the Lions 10 yard line. On the Rams second drive of the game Sam Bradford hit Danny Amendola with a pass inside the 10 yard line but he fumbled and it was recovered by x-Rams player Jonathan Wade. Still after one quarter of play the game was tied at three.

After the Rams tied the game on the last play of the first quarter Josh Brown kicked off to Stefan Logan. Most players would not return a kick from five yards deep in their end zone but Stefan Logan sure did. Stefan Logan returned the kick 105 yards right through the Rams defense. Only Bradley Fletcher even had a shot at stopping Logan. We did not know it but the game was over at this point. The Lions had only two drives in the second quarter but they made them count. The Lions went 81 yards in 13 plays and 80 yards in 12 plays to take a 24-6 lead into halftime.

The Rams were unable to do much in the second half and basically just got further embarrassed by the Lions. The Lions went on to a 44-6 victory. To make matters worse in the 4th quarter Ndamukong Suh tipped a Sam Bradford pass up in the air and intercepted it as well. Sam Bradford was 23 of 45 for 215 yards and two interceptions. Steven Jackson again was a warrior competing the entire game and gaining 114 yards on 25 carries. Danny Amendola had twelve receptions for 95 yards after Mark Clayton was hurt early in the game. Worse than the loss to the Lions is the fact that word is Mark Clayton suffered a torn patella tendon and will be lost for the season! The St. Louis Rams have also reported that Guard Jacob Bell and TE Darcy Johnson suffered concussions.

In addition to the terrible 44-6 loss to the Detroit Lions I was almost as mad about the fact that the Rams played Sam Bradford and Steven Jackson until the end of the game. With only eight wins in the last 3+ years the Rams can't afford to lose their franchise running back or only running back. Steve Spagnuolo may want to compete but there are times you need to be smart. This was a time to get A.J. Feeley some work and to rest Steven Jackson who has yet to be 100% this year. Hopefully the Rams can just throw this film away and start working on their game plan for the San Diego Chargers.

Rams vs. Lions Game Preview

Today the St. Louis Rams will try to move to 3-2 against the 0-4 Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The Rams have not had a record over .500 in the regular season since week 8 of the 2006 season. The Rams have gained confidence with two consecutive wins, while the Lions continue to have some bad luck and are winless on the season and have only won 2 of their last 36 games. The Rams lone win in 2009 was against the Detroit Lions a 17-10 victory. Luckily for the Rams the Lions managed two victories in 2009 and that allowed the Rams to have the #1 pick in the NFL Draft and they selected Sam Bradord from Oklahoma. Sam Bradford is a franchise QB and has has immediate impact on the Rams and their play.

There are some great story line in today's matchup. The most obvious thing to watch will be the Lions top pick DT Ndamukong Suh trying to kill Sam Bradford. The Lions are 26th against the pass so look for Sam Bradford to try to take his chances against the Lions. Bradford will most likely rollout quite a lot today to buy a little time and try to stay away from Suh. Sam needs to watch out for Julian Peterson when he rolls out. Teams are going to start blitzing on the right side to keep Sam in the pocket. Ndamukong Suh already leads the Lions in sacks and Adam Goldberg will need to step up and have a good day for the Rams to be able to throw the ball. If the Rams focus too much on Suh rookie LT Rodger Saffold will be alone with DE Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Shaun Hill has taken over for injured QB Matthew Stafford who is still out with a right shoulder injury. Hill had more passing yards than Michael Vick, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers over the last three weeks. The Rams will look to shut down Hill. The Rams are currently 4th on defense in points allowed and have not allowed an opponent to score over 17 against them. The Rams are however 21st against the pass and the Rams CB Ron Bartell will have to play well against Calvin Johnson. The Rams will also have matchup problems with linebacker coverage on TE Brandon Pettigrew.

While the key appears to be the passing offenses the game will probably come down to who can actually run the ball to set up play action and move the defenses off the line of scrimmage. The Lions will have to contend with Steven Jackson who was a warrior last week playing with a bad groin against the Washington Redskins. The Lions are allowing 4.8 yards per carry and Jackson is healthier this week than last. The Lions went out and drafted an explosive RB in Jahvid Best from California. Best is a flat out burner and the Rams will need to contain and gang tackle him on every play. The Rams have allowed 4.6 yards a carry and Best is by far the fastest back they have faced.

While the Lions are 0-4 they had a chance to win three of those games. The Lions have improved their team over the last couple years by drafting Ndamukong Suh, Jahvid Best, Matthew Stafford, Brandon Pettigrew & Louis Delmas. The Lions still need a couple more players on defense but their offense can be explosive as they are 13th in points scored and 7th in passing and that is with Matt Stafford out.

The St. Louis Rams look like a new team behind the leadership of Sam Bradford. Mark Clayton has came right in and stepped up with 13.6 yards per catch and is Bradford's go to guy. On defense former Lions DE James Hall has stepped up and leads the Rams with 4 sacks. The Rams defense has played great, they are keeping everything in front of them, gang tackling, and playing to the whistle. The Rams will need to continue to perform today to beat the Lions.

On paper and based on record this looks like a game the Rams should win. However I refused to predict a Rams win before I saw them win a game and after 14 straight road losses I refuse to predict a road win until I see one. The Lions will get big plays from Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best and Ndamukong Suh will play with a chip on his shoulder. In addition the Lions will be in front of a sellout crowd.

As Vinnie Sees it- Week 5 Vince Vitale

In Week 4 I scored 81 points after 89 in week 3 and I am now 10th out of 36 in the Blogger/Celebrity/Expert League. Last week I made the right decision to use Antonio Gates who came up with 26 big points. Well I really hate doing this but I am going to use Peyton Manning this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. While I would like to use Flacco I can't pass up this matchup. The Colts are 2-2 and Peyton is going to really want to win this one. He has been nearly perfect with 11 TD passes and 1 interception which was a dropped pass by his receiver. I look for Manning to put up 300+ yards with 3 TD. On the ground I am again going with the matchups and those point to Frank Gore against the Eagles. The Eagles continue to struggle against the run. The 49ers are 0-4, at home, and on national TV and I look for them to pull out all the stops. The Eagles linebackers will have a hard time staying with Gore out of the backfield. My other choice is Maurice Jones-Drew against the Buffalo Bills who are the worst team in football and have the 32nd ranked rushing defense in the league. This seems like a no brainer so MJD will not get hurt and will put up 100+ and a TD for me. At receiver I am going to use up Reggie Wayne coming off a 15 catch week. With Garcon and Collie less than 100% who do you think they Peyton will throw the ball to? My other selection is Calvin Johnson who will go up against the St. Louis Rams. I feel like I should have a Rams or Lions player out there for sure and I am going to go with Johnson. The Rams have no answer for Megatron, who should have a nice game against the Rams. At TE I am also going to pick on the Rams and take the Lions Brandon Pettigrew. Pettigrew has 30 targets in just 4 games. If the Lions throw 7+ balls his way this week he should make some plays. Kicker as always is a crap shoot. I look for a kicker on a team that should score some points but does not have a great offense. This week that ads up to Josh Scobee of the jaguars against the Buffalo Bills. Check in next week to see if my selections paid off.

Week 4 Suicide Fantasy Football Results

I am playing a great new fantasy football game called Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker but you can only use each player once during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

Last week I scored 81 points and moved into 10th place out of 36 in the celebrity blogger league. My Week 4 starters were Philip Rivers, Chris Johnson, Peyton Hillis, Brandon Marshall, DeSean Jackson, Antonio Gates and Matt Bryant. The injury to Michael Vick hurt as the Eagles were unable to get the ball downfield to DeSean Jackson who I now have used up. Antonio Gates was my leading scorer with 26 points. I will look to stay in the top 10 with another big week this week. Stay tuned for my picks.

Wish me luck, and check out Suicide Fantasy Football.

Rams Move Into First Place With 20 - 3 Victory

The St. Louis Rams took a 7-0 lead 9 minutes and 11 seconds into the game on a 15 yard strike from Sam Bradford to Brandon Gibson and road the NFL's 4th ranked scoring defense to a 20-3 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Bradford threaded the pass between two Seahawk defenders into the outstretched hands of Gibson on 3rd and 10. If you did not know better you would have thought that Peyton Manning threw the pass. The St. Louis Rams are now in first place for the first time since early in the 2006 NFL season.

For the game Sam Bradford was 23 of 41 for 289 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception. On the season Bradford now has six touchdown passes which ties him for 8th in the NFL. Sam has made all the difference in attitude for the St. Louis Rams and he shined again today. On the ground Steven Jackson who was a game time decision was a warrior running for 70 yards on 22 carries and catching 3 passes for 54 yards. Jackson also passed Marshall Faulk for #2 on the Rams all time rushing list. Jackson is still the heart and sole of the St. Louis Rams. Kenneth Darby in his backup role once again scored on a 21 yard screen pass from Bradford.

For the second straight week the St. Louis Rams defense dominated the second half of the game. The Rams led 10-3 at halftime and outscored the Seahawks 10-0 in the second half of play for a convincing 20-3 victory. The Rams forced Seattle to punt on their first six possessions of the second half and outgained them 172 yards to 68. For the game the Rams defense had 4 sacks and two turnovers while only allowing the Seahawks one drive of over 38 yards. The Rams defense has held all four opponents to 17 points or less. The Rams held Seattle to 2.7 yards on the ground and gang tackled whoever had the ball for the Seahawks all day.

The Rams schedule is what it is and we will not apologize for it, and need to take advantage of it. The Rams will now travel to face the 0-4 Detroit Lions. The Rams may be doing it with mirrors but the bottom line is they easily could be 4-0 and are playing solid football. The facts are the Rams are in first place in the NFC West and also lead the division in points scored and in the least points allowed.

Rams vs. Seahawk Game Preview

Last week was just another example of why NFL football is the best sport in the world. The St. Louis Rams were trailing 16-14 to the Washington Redskins in the 3rd quarter and were on the verge of starting the season 0-3 for the fourth straight year. The Rams then outscored the Redskins 16-0 over the remaining portion of the game for a 30-16 victory ending a 10 game losing streak. Now just one short week later the town has a buzz to it talking Rams football. The Rams with a win today over the Seattle Seahawks would move into first place in the NFC West. For the first time in a long time that light at the end of the tunnel may not be a train.

Well lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. The Rams still have lost 27 of the last 29 games they have played. In addition the Rams have also lost 10 straight to the Seattle Seahawks, 15 straight to NFC West foes, and 11 straight NFC West games at home. We still have a lot of work to do and some more pieces of the puzzle to acquire but for the first time in a long time the Rams are competing. The Rams for the first time in a very long time or out of the bottom 10 in soe major stats like rushing and passing offense where they have moved up to 20th.

So today is a big day and a big game. It is time to prove if the win over Washington was just a lucky win or a win that can help springboard a struggling franchise and give them the needed confidence to progress forward in their journey. The Rams most likely will be without Steven Jackson today as he still is suffering from the groin injury he suffered in the Redskins game. Both Steven Jackson and Oshiomogho Atogwe will be game time decisions prior to kickoff. The Rams have so many injured players this week they are not sure if they even have 45 healthy players to dress for the game. In addition to Steven Jackson's injury Keith Toston is also injured so newly acquired Chauncey Washington may be pressed into service. So there is once again a lot of pressure on rookie Sam Bradford to produce. The Seahawks are 30th against the pass and I expect a big game from Bradford today, we will need it.

Key matchups - Sam Bradford will need to pick apart the Seattle secondary today with our questions at running back. Also will Kenneth Darby be able to produce just enough to keep Seattle from an all out attack of Bradford. Will the Rams front seven be able to contain Justin Forsett. Forsett is a back with a lot of promise but has not been give enough carries yet to shine. This is the type of back in the past that has ripped the Rams for 100+, that can not happen today. Will the Rams linebackers be able to shut down or minimize TE John Carlson who has killed the Rams in the past. In a close even game often special teams are the difference and the Rams are going to have to keep the ball away from Leon Washington who returned to kicks for touchdowns last week against the San Diego Chargers.

On paper this game is pretty even. The Rams seem to be moving in the right direction while the Seahawks seem to be falling however they did find a way to win against the 49ers and Chargers. Both teams lack explosion on offense and have average defensive ability. This game should come down to mistakes and a couple of plays here or there. I am very worried about Leon Washington being the difference. I am going to put my faith for once in the St. Louis Rams this week. I just believe Bradford is what it takes for the Rams to now win these types of games. The Seahawks do not play well on the road and so far the Edward Jones Dome has been pretty loud and may provide the slight edge needed for the Rams today. Today is the day fans have been waiting for, for a very long time. Today is a big game and it is time to see if the light at the end of the tunnel is the Rams future or still another oncoming train.

Prediction St. Louis Rams 27-20 over the Seattle Seahawks
