Steven Jackson Ends Holdout

Merry Christmas St. Louis Rams fans, Steven Jackson ends holdout after 27 days. That is the word coming from multiple sources on Wednesday. After incurring $408,132 in fines Jackson finally said enough is enough. With only 18 days before the Rams take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 season opener, is it too late? Jackson who will not be able to play in this weeks third preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, will only have 7 days to get ready for the fourth and final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Look for Jackson to get a lighter than normal work-load the first couple of games of the year. Hopefully Jackson and the Rams will not get off to a slow start. They may have only themselves to blame.

Nick Wagoner the senior writer for the St. Louis Rams posted a story this afternoon that Steven Jackson has ended his 27 day holdout with the St. Louis Rams.

Jackson is expected to report to the Russell Training Center on Wednesday evening with the understanding that negotiations on a long term contract extension will begin soon after.

It’s expected that a deal for Jackson could be consummated in the next couple of days though there’s no timetable on such an agreement.

Jim Thomas lead St. Louis Rams writer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch also reported that the Rams are negotiating a contract with Steven Jackson as we speak.

Jackson's agent, Eugene Parker, informed the Rams on Wednesday afternoon that Jackson has agreed to report to Rams Park as a show of good faith in contract negotiations.

In fact, Parker and Rams president of football operations Jay Zygmunt were busy working on a contract extension Wednesday afternoon. It is quite possible that the parties will have agreed to a new contract before Jackson arrives at Rams Park.

Jay Glazer from Fox Sports who likes to report that he reports things first is already trying to turn us against Jackson. Once again the media has a very low opinion of the NFL fans in St. Louis.

It's likely Jackson will get a rude welcome back from fans in the Rams' third preseason game against the Ravens on Saturday. The Rams failed to sell out three games last season and Jackson was often critical of the lack of support.

Michael Smith from ESPN with Associated Press information also reports that Jackson is on his way.

Jackson had notified the team of his intentions and was scheduled to arrive in St. Louis from his home in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

Rams Chargers Gameday What To Watch

Here are a few of the things we will be watching when the St. Louis Rams play the San Diego Chargers at the Edward Jones Dome tonight.

• As a St. Louis Rams fan and PSL holder I will be looking closely at my tickets and wondering why I have to pay full price to a preseason game that will be missing Steven Jackson & LaDainian Tomlinson. Why does the NFL continue to charge full price for these games


• Orlando Pace - Orlando did not look ready to be on the field last week against the Tennessee Titans. I am pretty sure if he would have had to play 60+ plays against Kyle Vanden Bosch last week he would of ended up in the hospital. Even Big-O stated that he is still afraid to punch out with his left arm. I will be watching tonight to see how well he can run and pass block against Luis Castillo.


• Chris Long - Chris is a rookie lets remember this. Tonight I will be watching to see if Chris can play a whole have of football at a high level, and how well he can play the run and stay in his lane. Do not expect 10 sacks from Chris in 2008. It is just as important that Chris can keep the O-line off of his linebackers as well.


• Richie Incognito - Richie will be playing left guard and will be trying to block Nose Tackle Jamal Williams 6'3" 348 pounds. Brett Romberg seems to have the center position locked down so Richie needs to get in some solid work at left guard.


• Marc Bulger - I know you have a $65 million dollar contract but do you have a fire in your belly? Marc is still looking more at the rush than his own receivers. Marc is also one of the least emotional QBs in league. Maybe it is time to be a leader, if you don't want to get hit maybe you should say something to your O-line once in a while. Can Marc play a decent game without great protection?


• Secondary - With Justin King out for the year and Fakhir Brown already injured the Rams are very thin in the secondary. Can Jonathan Wade or Jerome Carter actually be starters in this league? Ron Bartell plays well in spot action but could he start a whole game at CB?


• Draft Picks - You always watch your draft picks, that is what these preseason games are all about. At this point the Rams need to have Chris Chamberlain and David Vobora make this squad.

St. Louis Rams vs. San Diego Chargers Preview

The St. Louis Rams will take on the San Diego Chargers tonight at the Edward Jones Dome. The Rams will be looking to bounce back from their horrible showing last week against the Tennessee Titans, and try to gain some confidence that they are sorely lacking heading into the 2008 season.

I know it is only preseason but you have to be worried about the Rams. The rams finished 31st in points allowed last season. Week 1 they allowed 34 points to the Titans, which means they are 32nd in the preseason in points allowed. They also allowed 340 yards on the ground which easily puts them last in rushing defense. We need to see improvement on both sides of the ball tonight, the start of the season is only 3 week away.

The San Diego Chargers beat the Dallas Cowboys last week 31-17 to open their preseason schedule. The Chargers are one of the favorites to reach the Superbowl this year, after finishing 11-5 and making it to the playoffs. Last year the Chargers were 5th in scoring, and 7th in rushing yards led by LT. On defense the Chargers are also strong were they finished 5th in points allowed and led the league in interceptions.

Are The St. Louis Rams Going To Sleep With The Fishes?

The St. Louis Rams were actually mentioned in ESPN the magazine this week. On Page 2 Mike & Mike discussed the NFC and possible teams to win it, other than the Dallas Cowboys. As a sleeper pick Mike Golic picked the St. Louis Rams. Check out his comments below.

I’ll pick the Rams. Marc Bulger was nicked up a lot last year, and Steven Jackson, presuming he plays, is still a fantastic back. Plus, they picked up Chris Long and have Leonard Little, so they have some bookends on the line on the defensive side of the ball. This year the Rams make some noise.

Not exactly ringing endorsements from Golic, but at least he believes the Rams have enough talent to be considered a sleeper. After last weeks lost to the Tennessee Titans, and without Steven Jackson the offense is still sleeping. We should learn more tonight when the Rams face the San Diego Chargers. What are your thoughts, have you seen enough from the Rams to see them as a sleeper in the NFC, or will they be sleeping with the fishes?

I would like to say that my favorite memory from the St. Louis Rams victory over the San Diego Chargers Saturday night at the Edward Jones Dome did not even take place inside the stadium.
