Josh McDaniels Heading To New England

Friday the St. Louis Rams gave permission to the New England Patriots to interview Josh McDaniels. This is another sign that the St. Louis Rams could be very close to signing Jeff Fisher as their next head coach. Jeff Fisher would not be inclined to keep McDaniels who has one year left on his contract with the Rams.

Adam Schefter reports that the New England Patriots are expected to hire McDaniels as an offensive assistant. McDaniels will reportedly assist the team during their playoff run. It does upset me that the Rams are helping out the Patriots but to get the deal done with Fisher this is the price they may have to pay.

With Bill O'Brien accepting the head coaching position at Penn State this also opens the door for Josh McDaniels to become the next Offensive Coordinator of the New England Patriots.

Sam Bradford Out For Dallas Game

Sam Bradford will miss Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys due to the high ankle sprain that he suffered last week against the Green Bay Packers. This will be the first game Bradford has missed during his NFL career.

Lets be honest there is no reason to rush out an injured Sam Bradford onto the field this weekend. The St. Louis Rams are 0-5 and while mathematically the season isn't over we don't need to jeopardize 2011 and beyond for one game. Sam Bradford has already been sacked more times (21) than any quarterback in the league and he would be facing Demarcus Ware and a tough Dallas defense on Sunday. In addition the Rams offense has yet to take off under Josh McDaniels. The Rams are last in scoring and Bradford is 30th in QB rating. Sam has not practiced all week and the Rams now have a new receiver in the fold with the trade for Brandon Lloyd. I think it is an excellent decision to rest Bradford this Sunday. Hopefully Bradford can rest the ankle and be ready to go next week at home against the New Orleans Saints.

Danny Amendola - Our Warrior

Since the loss of Issac Bruce and Torry Holt the St. Louis Rams have been looking for a #1 receiver. Well the Rams drafted two receivers in the 2011 NFL Draft and just picked up Mike Sims-Walker as a free agent. The Rams have 12 receivers in training camp and will most likely keep six or seven to open the 2011 NFL season. We may need a #1 but lets not forget what we already have. We have Danny Amendola a 5-11 185 lb solid sparkplug of a receiver. Amendola steped up while returning the second most punts in the NFL he was also 9th in receptions with 85. Maybe we do not have a #1 but we have Danny. The same Danny Amendola that had ONE reception less than Brandon Marshall and Andre Johnson. I am not saying Amendola is as talented or will score as many touchdowns as the high priced top receivers in the NFL, but what he will do is compete every second of every game and be where Sam Bradford expects him to be. With the Rams switching from Pat Shurmur to Josh McDaniels look for Amendola to catch balls in better situations with more running room instead of his back to the defense. I am usually the person that points out that St. Louis would rather have a hard worker like Bob Bassen or Bo Hart than an actual player with talent. Well in Amendola I see both. I bet Tom Brady is very happy having Wes Welker and Sam Bradford has Danny Amendola so don't put him down just because of his size. Danny Amendola stuck out in the Rams scrimmage on Sunday and there is no reason that he will not stick out in 2011. Why shouldn't we love a 25 year old receiver that can ball with the big boys.

Rams Sign FA DT Justin Bannan

The St. Louis Rams have also inked Denver Broncos free agent DT Justin Bannan to a three year deal on Saturday. Bannan know for his work ethic has ties with Josh McDaniels who brought him to the Broncos from the Baltimore Ravens. Bannan started all 16 games last year for the Broncos and contributed with 35 tackles. Coach Steve Spagnuolo who loves to rotate defensive lineman will probably use the veteran Bannan in rotation with Darrell Scott and Fred Robbins on the inside. Bannan has played nine years in the NFL and has a total of 237 tackles and 6.5 sacks. More quality depth for the Rams who are making a splash in the 2011 free agency period.
