Rams Start To Trim Roster To 53

The St. Louis Rams along with every other NFL Team must trim their roster to 53 players by 3PM CST today 9/3/2011. This will force the Rams to cut 27 players within about 36 hours, and those cuts have already begun. So far 16 of the 27 needed cuts have happened. Rams Sign TE Darcy Johnson

The St. Louis Rams signed tight end Darcy Johnson due to Michael Hoomanawanui's ankle injury which is expected to keep him out at least a month. Darcy Johnson was with the Rams through training camp but was released during the last cuts. Johnson was previously with the New York Giants for three years where he totaled 9 catches for 78 yards. The Rams dropped defensive tackle Jermelle Cudjo to open a roster spot for Johnson. This move seems a little strange since the Rams kept four tight ends on the roster to start the season and they still have three healthy ones remaining. If Fendi Onobun was good enough to make the roster than he needs to be good enough to play when needed. We will see how this move pans out for the St. Louis Rams.

St. Louis Rams Sign Fendi Onobun

The St. Louis Rams signed 6th round draft choice TE Fendi Onobun today. Reports are that the 6'6" 250lb freakish athlete out of the University of Houston received a 4-year deal worth $1.92 million with a $129,000 signing bonus. This seems like insane money for a player that did not play ANY High School football, and after a 4-year basketball career at Arizona then played 1 year of football at Houston. Onobun playing in only two games had 2 catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. Word is that Onobun will mostly play on special teams in 2010. While at Houston Onobun blocked two extra points in a 50-43 win over Southern Mississippi, earning him Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week honors. I am still skeptical about a player with basically NO experience trying to play in the NFL. Only time will tell if Onobun can make the cut.

St. Louis Rams Select Fendi Onobun, TE Houston

Fendi Onobun is the second tight end the St. Louis Rams have selected on Day 3. Believe it our not Fendi had 2 catches his entire NCAA career because he played four years on the Arizona basketball team. Onobun is a freakish athlete with little to no experience at football at the NCAA level. No matter how great he may be years down the road this is an awful pick for a team that needs players that can play today. With players like Jonathan Dwyer, LeGarrette Blount, and Anthony McCoy on the board we could have taken a risk with players that already performed at a high level, and against a high level of competition.
