Rams Select Jermale Hines - SS - Ohio State

The St. Louis Rams selected 6'1" 216 lb SS Jermale Hines from Ohio State in the 5th round of the 2011 NFL Draft. NFL Draft Countdown has Jermale Hines listed as the 21st best Safety in the 2011 NFL Draft. FF Toolbox had Hines projected as a 6th round selection. Hines was best in run support at Ohio State and will have to improve in his coverage skills. I really believe the Rams needed to pick up another Safety in this draft so we will have to see how Hines progresses once in training camp. The Rams have three picks remaining in the 7th round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Rams Select Greg Salas - WR - Hawaii

The St. Louis Rams selected 6'1" 207 lb WR Greg Salas from Hawaii in the 4th round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Greg Salas had a moster season with 119 receptions in 2010 alone. Hawaii throws the ball a ton and Salas was a top target for them. Greg caught 285 passes for 4345 yards and 26 touchdowns while playing for the Warriors. Salas shined in his last game the 2010 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl where he had 13 receptions for 214 yards and 2 TDs against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Salas is another receiver for the Rams who will not have explosive speed but has a lot of ability to make plays and catch the ball. The Rams look to be loaded with a core group of taller receivers that will need to make some plays without being able to get a lot of separation. With the ability of Sam Bradford to put the ball through tight spaces that may be all they need.

Rams Select Austin Pettis - WR - Boise State

The St. Louis Rams selected 6'3" 210 lb WR Austin Pettis from Boise State in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Austin Pettis played four seasons with the Broncos catching 229 balls for 2838 yards and 39 touchdowns. This is another selection by the Rams that seems a bit early. By all accounts Pettis is a possession target with red zone potential. It appears the Rams will continue to try to move the ball with a fleet of solid receivers but no true #1 target. Round 4 of the 2011 NFL Draft will begin at 11AM CST on Saturday.

Rams Select Lance Kendricks - TE - Wisconsin

The St. Louis Rams selected TE Lance Kendricks from Wisconsin in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Lance Kendricks had 78 receptions for 1160 yards and 8 TDs while playing at Wisconsin. NFL Draft Countdown as well as many other boards had Kendricks as the 2nd best tight end in this years draft. While Kendricks may be a nice college player the St. Louis Rams already have plenty of tight ends on the current roster and could have filled a bigger need. If the Rams did not see a WR worthy of the 47th pick then I believe they should have selected a DT like Stephen Paea. Kendricks is only 245 lbs, hopefully the Rams are not looking to bring back the H-Back. Draft experts claim Kendricks will help out young Sam Bradford, we shall see.

2011 NFL Draft Grades Round 1

Well only hours after the 2011 NFL Draft, Round 1 Grades are being released. Overall everyone seems to believe that DE Robert Quinn from North Carolina is a solid choice for the St. Louis Rams. Read below what the big boys are saying:

Doc's Sports Service - St. Louis Rams – B+ (Robert Quinn)

The Rams scored by getting one of the best pure pass rushers in the draft. Good for them. But they had other needs. I would have much rather seen them take Mike Pouncey or Prince. I am assuming they couldn’t trade down either because that would have been their best move. (Outside of trading up for one of the stud wideouts.)

Bleacher Report - St. Louis Rams – A (Robert Quinn)

The Rams filled a need here, but they also landed top 10 (maybe even top 5) value. Quinn was simply too good to pass up despite the character issues. I don't think Spagnuolo will have any trouble handling him.

CBS Sports - St. Louis Rams – A (Robert Quinn)

I love this pick. Steve Spagnuolo loves pass rushers and this is the best of the group.

SB Nation - St. Louis Rams – B+ (Robert Quinn)

DE Robert Quinn was an outstanding value pick with tremendous upside, and he also happens to be a perfect complement to Chris Long. The brain tumor scares me, but otherwise, this was a terrific pick.

Fox Sports - St. Louis Rams – A- (Robert Quinn)

Defensive end Robert Quinn was considered in scouting circles as the top edge rusher in this draft, so the Rams got nice value with him. He should handle a nickel pass-rushing role this season.

Robert Quinn Highlight Video

Rams Select Robert Quinn - DE - North Carolina

The St. Louis Rams selected Robert Quinn 6'4" 265 lb defensive end from North Carolina with their first round selection, and 14th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. With wide receivers A.J. Green and Julio Jones going to the Cincinnati Bengals and the Atlanta Falcons respectively the Rams choose to select a defensive player. Robert Quinn was considered a top 10 talent by many however he did not play at all in 2010 after being ruled permanently ineligible for accepting $5,642 worth of extra benefits from agents in violation of NCAA rules. Quinn had 25.5 tackles for loss while playing only 25 games at North Carolina. Quinn has a huge upside and could be a steal at #14 overall for the St. Louis Rams who will line him up opposite of Chris Long who developed well playing LDE last year. If the Rams are still looking for a WR with the 47th pick overall in the 2011 NFL Draft they make look at Titus Young from Boise State or Leonard Hankerson from Miami Hurricanes.
