St. Louis Rams Hire Jeff Fisher

Well the courtship of Jeff Fisher between the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams finally came to an end on Friday as it was announced that Jeff Fisher will be the next head coach of the St. Louis Rams. Stan Kronke got his man and in Fisher the Rams fans get what they have wanted for over a decade, an experienced head coach to take over their struggling franchise.

Just those two small words (Jeff Fisher) make you feel the Rams are tenacious. Jeff Fisher was a small scrappy 5'-10" 185 lb cornerback from USC and a 7th round pick of the Chicago Bears back in 1981. Fisher managed to made the team and play for the Bears for 4 seasons. In 1985 Fisher started his coaching career with the Bears as their defensive assistant, and has coached 26 seasons in the NFL. Fisher was head coach of the Tennessee Titans where he had a 142-120 record.

Last year the San Francisco 49ers hired Jim Harbaugh another former Chicago Bears player and they immediately took on his personality. If the Rams have the same luck Jeff Fisher will instill in them a hard-nosed scrappy punch you in the mouth attitude that was severely lacking under Steve Spagnuolo's 4 pillar approach.

Josh McDaniels Heading To New England

Friday the St. Louis Rams gave permission to the New England Patriots to interview Josh McDaniels. This is another sign that the St. Louis Rams could be very close to signing Jeff Fisher as their next head coach. Jeff Fisher would not be inclined to keep McDaniels who has one year left on his contract with the Rams.

Adam Schefter reports that the New England Patriots are expected to hire McDaniels as an offensive assistant. McDaniels will reportedly assist the team during their playoff run. It does upset me that the Rams are helping out the Patriots but to get the deal done with Fisher this is the price they may have to pay.

With Bill O'Brien accepting the head coaching position at Penn State this also opens the door for Josh McDaniels to become the next Offensive Coordinator of the New England Patriots.

Steve Spagnuolo Fired By Rams

The St. Louis Rams finally fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo and GM Billy Deveney on Monday. Spagnuolo was 10-38 as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. The Rams record was 12-52 with Devaney as the GM and many of his draft picks never even made the roster.

Owner Stan Kroenke said in a statement released by the team. "This was a difficult decision for many reasons. We have tremendous respect for Steve and Billy as people and football professionals.

"No one individual is to blame for this disappointing season and we all must hold ourselves accountable. However, we believe it's in the best interest of the St. Louis Rams to make theses changes as we continue our quest to build a team that consistently competes for playoffs and championships."

The Rams coaching search now begins and former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher seems to be at the head of their list.

Rams vs. 49ers Game Preview

Steve Spagnuolo is ultra conservative but I still do not expect him to run onto the field Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers waving a white flag, however one way or another the St. Louis Rams 2011 season will come to a merciful ending. The San Francisco 49ers pounded out a 26-0 win against the Rams just four weeks ago and will look to put another beat down on the Rams. A victory over the Rams would give San Francisco a first-round bye in the NFC Playoffs.

The 49ers absolutely dominated the first matchup only allowing the Rams to gain 157 total yards and ten first downs. The 49ers defense was smothering. The Rams went into the game with AJ Feeley at quarterback. The 49ers held Feeley to a 58.1 QB rating while sacking him four times and intercepting him once. On the ground Steven Jackson was held to 19 yards on 10 carries while Josh McDaniels was criticized for his approach in this game. The 49ers were able to hold the ball for 36:04 of the game.

While many talk about the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints and for good reason, the 49ers should also be in the discussion. Common sense says the 49ers can't score with the big boys but they do average 23 points per game, and would they have to score that much with their top ranked defense? Alex Smith known for managing the game as they say is 10th in QB rating and at times looks similar to a former Super Bowl Champion Trent Dilfer. Dilfer managed a 34-7 victory in Super Bowl XXXV over the New York Giants.

The Rams will once again go with Kellen Clemens at QB and face another tough matchup. The Rams have been shutout twice in their last four games, scoring a total of only 26 points in those contest. The Rams now face the #1 scoring and rushing defense in the NFL in the 49ers. The 49ers want that bye week and they will come to town on a mission to get just that.

The Rams show no signs of ever changing their game plan under head coach Steve Spagnuolo. Weather Pat Shurmer or Josh McDaniels is calling the plays they smell of Spagnuolo's conservative approach. The Rams will try to run the ball with Steven Jackson, throw short passes and punt a lot. The Rams are so bad on offense that they are -207 in point differential and trail the Chiefs by 39 points for 31st in scoring. In the year of high scoring offense the Rams are setting records for futility.

The Rams have at least never folded during a game and they now only have one left so I look for them to at least show up again but there is no way they should win this game. This game means a lot to the 49ers. The 49ers are already in the playoffs and may overlook the Rams but not with Jim Harbaugh as the coach. I look for the 49ers to come out early grab a lead and add to it as the game goes along. Rams fans should spend most of the game looking at the scoreboard hoping for an Indianapolis Colts victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

St. Louis Rams vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Grades

Quarterbacks (D)
After a pretty decent game against the Cincinnati Bengals Kellen Clemens came back down to earth with a 9 of 24 for 91 yard performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With only five completions to wide receivers the Rams simply could not get anything going.

Running backs (B)
What can you say about Steven Jackson a truly great professional. It was nice to see him top 1000 yards for the seventh straight year. Jackson was able to run for 103 yards on 24 carries but again these yards are always between the 20's. Cadillac Williams chipped in 42 yards and the Rams were able to run for 164 yards against the #1 ranked defense in the league. Without points it is all for not but they did probably as good as they could.

Wide Receivers (D)
Rams wideouts caught 5 passes for 54 yards, not much to write home about. You would think since they are always behind the Rams would air it out but they just seem incapable of even attempting it under Steve Spagunolo. Lance Kendricks and the tight end group were again a no show as they had only 2 catches for 13 yards.

Offensive Line (B)
The Rams ran for 164 yards and only allowed 3 sacks to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Based on what we have seen in the past this was one of their best games of the season. Again that is not saying a lot but they played about as well as they can play in this one.

Special Teams (C-)
Coverage teams got a break in this one as Antonio Brown only had one kickoff and punt return. For the Rams Nick Miller looked good with 31 yards on 3 punt returns. Jerious Norwood averaged 24 yards on 3 returns as well. So this week it was Josh Brown's turn to break down. Brown missed two field goals that could have made the score 13-6 during the 4th quarter.

Defense (B)
Well the defense as usual had enough downs to crush the team. The Rams allowed 37 year old Charlie Batch to complete 68% of his passes and 377 total yards to the Steelers. The Steelers averaged 6 yards per carry on the ground as the Rams continue to get run over by every team they play. On the bright side the Rams were in the game in the 4th quarter and held Pittsburgh to 1 of 7 on 3rd down conversions.

Coaching (F)
Well the Rams actually tried a trick play which of course failed as Donnie Jones was outraced to the marker by Antonio Brown. The Rams who have nothing to lose still seem to play conservative even from the start as the Rams ran a sweep on the first drive on 3rd and 12. Steven Jackson picked up 15 yards on the play but how do you run the ball right there. The Rams can't score and nothing seems to change and the coaching has to take the blame.

Steelers Shutdown Rams 27-0

Today we saw the "Same old sorry-ass Rams" as San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield once called them. The St. Louis Rams are 10-37 under head coach Steve Spagnuolo after their 27-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Spagnuolo currently has the worst record by a Rams coach in franchise history. The Rams came out with the same conservative approach they have showed for three seasons now. The Rams have been outscored 1137 - 630 or 24-13 per game since Spagnuolo took over.

The St. Louis Rams gained 232 total yards against the #1 ranked Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The Rams came out running the ball behind Steven Jackson who had a solid effort gaining 103 yards on 24 carries. I don't think I have seen Jackson run harder or with more determination than he had in this game. Unfortunately Jackson just does not have the speed or blocking to bust the big one and the Rams must rely on the passing game to produce points. Kellen Clemens who played well against the Cincinnati Bengals last week struggled going 9 of 24 for only 91 yards.

In the year of offensive records being shattered the St. Louis Rams now have 15 touchdowns in 15 games played. To put that more in perspective LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles has 17 rushing touchdowns on the season. In addition there are twenty NFL quarterbacks with at least fifteen touchdown passes. The Rams simply have to get more weapons on this roster and find someone who knows how to use them.

On this day the Rams were again no threat. Of course you can point out that if Josh Brown makes both field goals the Rams could have only been down 13-7 in the 4th quarter but he did not make those kicks. The Rams have now lost nine games by double digits and trailed in twelve of their fifteen games by double digits which is not competitive. You can say what you want about excuses, injuries, depth the offensive line, etc. but we deserve better, much better than this.

The Steelers knew they could play without Ben Roethlisberger and get by with 37 year old Charlie Batch because these are the same old sorry-ass Rams that we have been watching for years now. The Rams have not had a winning season since 2003 and we need Stan Kronke to step up and change this pattern now.

Rams vs. Steelers Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams have played in some pretty boring football games this year and we may be treated to another on Christmas Eve. The St. Louis Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers will both be playing their backup quarterbacks in Week 16. Ben Roethlisberger will sit out and turn the reigns over to 37 year old Charlie Batch, while the Rams will once again start Kellen Clemens. Roethlisberger is a beast and rarely will come out of any contest so the Steelers must believe they can handle the Rams with their defense and a strong rushing attack.

The Steelers are probably right as the Rams are last in the league in scoring and will be down yet another receiver as Austin Pettis has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances. The Rams have scored ten or less in six of their games and will face the #1 ranked Steelers at Heinz Field. The Rams are averaging 11.9 points per game and have a -180 point differential.

The Steelers who still have an outside chance of winning the AFC North or even the #1 Seed in the AFC must have this one. The Steelers were embarrassed Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers losing 20-3 and Mike Tomlin will be out for blood in this one. Look for the Steelers to attack deep with Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown against Josh Gordy and Rod Hood. Wallace and Brown are lightning fast and should be able to get deep against the Rams very depleted secondary. On the ground the Steelers will feature Rashard Mendenhall against the Rams 32nd ranked rushing defense. Mendenhall has had trouble finding space behind the Steelers offensive line this year so this may be the matchup he has been looking for.

For the Rams the most exciting part of this game may be watching for Steven Jackson to gain 34 yards which will put him over the 1000 yard mark for the 7th straight season. Jackson who has given his all throughout the season just can't seem to get the crunch time yards behind the poor blocking of the Rams offensive line. To beat the Steelers Clemens will need to be able to move the ball through the air. With Austin Pettis out the Rams will go with Brandon Lloyd and Brandon Gibson at wideout. Hopefully Danario Alexander will also see some playing time. To win this one the Rams will have to force Charlie Batch into a bunch of mistakes.

I am not even going to try and sugarcoat this one. Dick LeBeau, Troy Polamalu, James Harrison, James Farrior, LaMarr Woodley and others will be out to kill the Rams on Saturday. The Rams offensive line and Kellen Clemens will be under siege all day long. The Rams have no weapons or plays to threaten this defense at all.

St. Louis Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals Grades

Quarterbacks (C+)
Kellen Clemens who had only been with the Rams for nine days made the start for the injured Sam Bradford. Clemens played a solid game going 25 of 36 for 229 yards and a TD to Danario Alexander. Don't lose sight that Clemens was 10 of 14 for 115 yards during garbage soft zone time.

Running backs (C)
The Rams were 2 of 13 on 3rd down conversions so they really could not get any flow going. Steven Jackson had 71 yards on 18 carries but the yards did not seem to come when needed. Jackson also 9 catches for 72 yards when the Bengals switched to soft zone in the 4th quarter. The Rams continue to fail to get a yard on the ground when needed so although they rushed for 95 yards those yards were pretty meaningless.

Wide Receivers (C-)
Rams wideouts caught 12 passes for 132 yards including the 25 yard TD by Alexander. The Rams receivers continue to get no yardage after the catch and are having a hard time getting separation. Same story week in and week out here. Still not sure why Alexander is not on the field more.

Offensive Line (C-)
Well the O-line held up pretty good in this one. The issues this week were penalties and poor run blocking. The Rams failed on every short yardage situation and they also allowed 3 sacks. This unit seems unable to improve.

Special Teams (D)
With the Rams up 6-3 in the 3rd Quarter the Rams allowed a 56 yard punt return by Brandon Tate to turn all the momentum in this one. In addition Josh Brown missed a early FG that could have helped momentum as well. The Rams had no punt return yardage and only a 20.8 yard average on kickoff returns from Norwood. In addition Josh Brown again failed to give the Rams a chance to recover an onsides kick.

Defense (B)
The defense played well and kept the Rams in the game. However as bad as the offense is the defense needs to force more than one turnover and one sack to have any chance to win. The defense also failed to recover any of the Bengals three fumbles. Holding the Bengal under 300 yards was a nice effort by the depleted crew.

Coaching (D)
Nothing seems to improve with coach Spagnuolo or Josh McDaniels. The Rams continue to get outscored and outplayed in the second half. The Rams continue to be very conservative and the 3rd and short play calling is just terrible. If you can't cover kicks put more starters on coverage or kick the ball out of bounds we are getting burned weekly.

Rams vs. Seahawks Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams (2-10) will take on the Seattle Seahawks (5-7) on Monday Night Football this week in Seattle. The Rams lost 24-7 just three weeks ago on their home turf to the Seahawks and will have a tough test on National TV.

The Rams had two interceptions, a blocked punt and an early 7-0 lead over the Seahawks in the Edward Jones Dome the last time these two met. After that is was all Seattle as they dominated shutting the Rams out over the final 54 minutes of action. Chris Clemons led the way with three of the five Seahawks sacks of Sam Bradford. Steven Jackson was also shut down as he was only able to gain 42 yards on 15 carries. Overall the Rams were held to 185 total yards.

Seattle is 5-7 on the season and 3-1 over their last four games as their play has improved. The Seahawks are coming off a dominating win over the Eagles and will have 11 days rest heading into this game. With a win the Seahawks would be only two games behind the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons for the Wild Card position in the NFC. As we all know stranger things have happened.

Its no secret that the Seahawks will try to pound the ball on the ground with Marshawn Lynch against the Rams 32nd ranked rush defense. Lynch managed 88 yards and a TD on the ground in the Week 11 contest. In addition Tavaris Jackson finally seems to be healthy and he could pose some problems moving around in the pocket, buying time and making some big plays to Doug Baldwin and Sidney Rice who both average over 15 yards per catch.

Heading into Monday it is still unclear who will even be the starting QB for the Rams as Sam Bradford is suffering from a high ankle sprain still and A.J. Feeley has a broken thumb. All recent signs point to Sam Bradford giving it a go on Monday night, however if he can not or aggravates the injury further look for newly acquired Kellen Clemens to play for the Rams.

Steven Jackson has been held under 65 yards in each of the Rams last three contests. There is hope that Mark Levoir will return at tackle which would be some needed relief from the turnstile play of Adam Goldberg. For the Rams to have any chance in this one they will need a huge game from Steven Jackson.

The Rams continue to play about as conservative as an NFL team can play. With the patch work offensive line and the beat up Sam Bradford behind center look for head coach Steve Spagnuolo to continue his conservative ways. I would love to see the Rams come out, be aggressive and throw everything they have at Seattle but there is no reason to believe that will happen. The Rams are 10-34 under Spagnuolo, are last in the league in scoring 11.7 points per game, and are -156 in point differential in 2011.

The Rams are just not playing well enough to beat teams right now and a Monday Night game on National TV against the Seattle Seahawks and the 12th man could be a recipe for disaster for this franchise. Will Sam Bradford play and will the Rams be able to protect him? Will Stan Kronke see him team embarrassed on Monday Night Football and prepare to clean house? Many questions may be answered Monday night.

St. Louis Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers Grades

Quarterbacks (D)
A.J. Feeley started for the injured Sam Bradford and he did not look sharp. Feeley finished 12 of 22 for 156 yards and 1 interception. If it were not for 2 amazing catches from Brandon Lloyd and Austin Pettis Feeley would have barely cracked 100 yards. Feeley was sacked four times and hurried throughout. As we have seen previously it is hard to tell if players are holding the offense back or the coaches are holding it back, either way the effort from Feeley was not pretty.

Running backs (D)
Steven Jackson had one of his lowest rushing totals ever as he was only able to gain 19 yards on 10 carries. The Rams went to Jerious Norwood after the game started to get away from them and we was even less successful gaining 19 yards on 11 carries. Overall the Rams rushed for 31 yards on 23 carries for a 1.3 yard average. There were no holes but someone must take the blame and some will fall here.

Wide Receivers (C)
With only 12 completions you can't expect too much out of your receivers. Brandon Lloyd was hardly looked too in this one and only had 1 circus catch for 34 yards. In a 26 point loss I would expect Lloyd to at least catch several balls. Brandon Gibson led the Rams in catches (4) and yardage (42). Rams wide receivers caught 9 passes for 119 yards. They did what they could with what they had.

Offensive Line (F)
The patchwork line played even worse than they did the previous week allowing Feeley to get pounded throughout and there was absolutely no room for Jackson to run. Everyone saw Goldberg run over my a linebacker and there were many other players bowled over in this one. Get it together guys!

Special Teams (C)
Josh Brown stole a check in this one as a was asked to kick the ball just one time on the opening kickoff! Donnie Jones who is not 100% managed 40 yards per punt on 8 attempts. Nick Miller was for some reason replaced by Quinn Porter on one kickoff return why would that be? Have we not seen enough of Quinn Porter. Kick coverage ok. Overall not much to talk about here.

Defense (D)
Overall the defense played very hard and managed 4 sacks and play tough in the red zone. We must realize that the defense also needs to create takeaways and get off the field. The Rams defense did allow 6 scores, failed to create any turnovers and the 49ers were able to play keep away with 36+ minutes of time of possession. In addition Alex Smith completed 74% of his passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. Hard yes, good enough no.

Coaching (F)
Sorry I have to give out yet another F to Steve Spagnuolo and his coaching staff. You have 10 wins in 3 years and you once again lost a game by double digits. You get a high powered OC and the team still can't move the ball. It is embarrassing to only gain 157 yards in an NFL football game I don't care who you are playing. Stan you can barrow my phone to call someone or $49 to fly Spagnuolo out of town on Southwest Airlines but lets start cleaning house.

Rams vs. 49ers Game Preview

The key to the St. Louis Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers game today is Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers are 9-2 and will win the NFC West and the biggest reason is Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers signed Jim Harbaugh to take over this year for Mike Singletary who was released after going 18-22 as the 49ers tough nosed inexperienced head coach.

Jim knows football. Harbaugh played 15 seasons in the NFL and was a college head coach for seven years at San Diego and Stanford where he had a combined record of 58-27. Everyone waited for the 49ers to take on the persona of Mike Singletary but instead they have taken to Jim's football philosophy much quicker.

Jim Harbaugh is about hard nosed, smart NFL football. For those that love stats the 49ers have allowed more yards than they have gained and have even been sacked more than they collected so how are the 49ers so successful and 9-2? The 49ers are efficient and know how to win and they learned that from Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers control the clock, are +16 in turnover differential and pressure the other team physically and mentally just like Jim would do it.

This is yet another terrible match up for the Rams. The 49ers are first overall in scoring and rushing defense while the Rams are 31st in scoring and 21st in rushing. The 49ers will pound at the Rams 32nd ranked rushing defense with Al Gore and Kendall Hunter. The Rams continually make stars of backup running backs like Kendall Hunter and today will be no exception. With DT Justin Bannan most likely out today the 49ers will attack the interior of the Rams because they know they can and under the leadership of Harbaugh will make sure you no about it.

With Sam Bradford still suffering from an ankle injury Jay Feeley will most likely start for the Rams today. The 49ers will attack Feeley from the outside with Justin Smith and Aldon Smith off the edge. In the middle of the field NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis will be head hunting Rams receivers and running backs. The Rams who never seem to have much of a plan will try to attack with Steven Jackson who will most likely not find much room behind the Rams patchwork offensive line. Through the air the Rams will continually go to Brandon Lloyd who will probably be covered by Carlos Rogers who leads the 49ers with 5 interceptions.

It all goes back to efficiency. The 49ers are 26th in yardage but 9th in points. The 49ers will impose their will on the Rams all afternoon. Hopefully Rams fans will finally see the difference coaching can make and why we will need to clean house after the 2011 season.

St. Louis Rams Week 12 Grades

Quarterbacks (C-)
The excuses have to stop. Sure the patchwork line and dropped balls are not helping Sam Bradford however Sam was only sacked twice today and he still missed quiet a few throws. I believe Steve Spagnuolo has Bradford so afraid of throwing an interception that Sam is just being way too careful with the ball and does not try to make throws into tight windows like we know he can. Sam Bradford was 17 of 31 for 203 yards with a touchdown pass and 85.8 QB rating against Arizona.

Running backs (C)
The Rams just do not have the blocking or explosive back to turn their running game into many points. If you throw out the longest run from Jackson and Norwood the Rams ran for 57 yards on 20 carries or just 2.8 yards per carry. The Rams once again failed to score on the ground and have only 4 rushing TDs for the season.

Wide Receivers (B)
The Rams receivers caught 10 passes for 149 and a TD. Brandon Lloyd continues to just be great. Lloyd has to dive or make a great catch just to get to most of the balls thrown to him. Austin Pettis also chipped in with an amazing one-handed catch. Overall the receivers caught almost everything they could get too. Yards after the catch are just not available with the routes they are running in addition to where Bradford is putting the ball.

Offensive Line (D)
The patchwork line held up for the most part except for two vicious sacks that Adam Goldberg allowed to rookie Sam Acho, one of which caused a fumble and the Rams some points. There were virtually no holes for Steven Jackson or Jerious Norwood to run through. This line must improve and be retooled in 2012.

Special Teams (F)
Well even with the 88 yard punt return for a touchdown by Nick Miller I have to give this group an F. Mostly because of the coaching but still they are on the field so they get the grade. Going into the game every punt should have been kicked out of bounds instead the Rams allowed Patrick Peterson to once again run a punt back for a TD to give the Cardinals a 10 point lead. In addition the missed FG by Josh Brown proved costly.

Defense (F)
When a less than 100% Beanie Wells can set a franchise rushing record with 228 yards on 27 carries you get an F right out of the box. As bad as John Skelton and the Cardinals passing game is there is no excuse to not stack the box and shut down the Cardinals rushing attack.

Coaching (F)
Yet another F for coach Spagnuolo and his staff. I don't we really have to explain it much more. He is so conservative and afraid of losing that he lost again to a very bad Arizona Cardinals team. The punt to Peterson, the punt on 4th down, the time management before halftime, the lack of adjustments to stop the run, where has Nick Miller been for 12 weeks, the list goes on and on. Unfortunately I doubt this will be his last F.

Cardinals and Peterson Burn Rams Again

For the second time in 21 days the St. Louis Rams found a way to lose to a bad Arizona Cardinals football team. The loss drops the Rams to 2-9 for the season. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo's hot seat should now resemble The Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Once again the coaching decisions during the game were flat out bewildering. In the first contest the Rams decided to go for 4th and 1 instead of attempting a 50 yard field goal with 1:41 to play. The Rams then had a 42 yard field goal blocked as time expired. Then in over time the Rams punted to lightning quick Patrick Peterson who returned it 99 yards for the game winning touchdown.

Flash forward to Sunday when Spagnuolo was once again at his best. The Rams who had 1st and goal from the three yard line turned the opportunity into 2nd and goal from the 17 and let 31 seconds run off the clock as coach Spagnuolo said their was some disarray! The Rams ended up kicking a field goal on 3rd down to take a 10-3 lead into half time.

Midway through the 3rd quarter Donnie Jones punts the ball straight down the middle of the field to Patrick Peterson who once again burned the Rams with an 80 yard touchdown return to put the Cardinals up 20-10. Spagnuolo in the press conference said the plan was to not kick it down the middle and that Donnie Jones miss hit it. Spags take some blame for something, before this game even started you should have already told the special teams coach and Donnie Jones that each and every punt better go out of bounds, you are to blame. There was no miss hit the ball was a beautiful 45 yard spiral down the middle of the field. Jones punted seven times during the game and only one was out of bounds.

With 13 minutes left to play and the Rams trailing 20-13 they had 4th and 5 at the Cardinals 32 yard line, Spagnuolo elected to go for a field goal and Josh Brown missed. I know Spagnuolo can't kick the ball himself and that we would eventually need two scores to win but it would have been nice to see the Rams try to tie it up in that situation.

After a Beanie Wells fumble and a Bradford to Lloyd touchdown the game was tied at 20. Somehow the Rams were back in the game. After a 53 yard run by Jim Brown, I mean Beanie Wells the Cardinals once again took the lead on a Jay Feely field goal. Now comes the most puzzling moment of all. With the Rams trailing 23-20 with 3:27 to play and with 3rd and 1 from their own 36 yard line the conservative Steve Spagnuolo decides to throw a pass to the sure handed 2nd round draft pick Lance Kendricks. The pass from Bradford was incomplete and the Rams faced 4th and 1. The 2-8 St. Louis Rams then elected to punt the ball to the Cardinals only to never see it again. Spagnuolo justified the decision by saying that he thought we would get the ball back. The Rams had already been gashed for 207 yards on the ground by Beanie Wells what would make you think you would be able to stop them when you have not stopped them all day? Game over as the Cardinals ran the remaining 3:14 off the clock and the Rams dropped to 2-9.

Rams vs Cardinals Game Preview

Three weeks ago the St. Louis Rams suffered a heartbreaking 19-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals when Patrick Peterson returned a punt 99 yards in overtime. The Rams basically blew that game and Steve Spagnuolo started to come under fire once again for his decisions. The Rams had leads of 6 and 7 points throughout most of the game. Last in the game Spagnuolo usually ultra conservative elected to go for a 4th and 1 instead of trying to take the lead with a 50 yard field goal. Then as time expired a 42 yard field goal be Josh Brown was blocked by Calais Campbell. The Rams were coming off a huge home win against New Orleans and with the schedule there was hope the Rams could win five games in a row to get to 5-6 but those hopes were crushed after the Peterson punt return.

Expect more of the same today as both of these teams are still not very good football teams. The Rams are 2-8 and the Cardinals are sitting at 3-7, neither team will make the playoffs in 2011.

With Rodger Saffold and Jason Smith out for the season the Rams are not even sure who will start on the offensive line this week against the Cardinals. With Mark LeVoir also injured the Rams will be force to once again play Kevin Hughes at Left Tackle unless they go with Thomas Welch who they picked up on Thursday or slide Harvey Dahl over to play tackle. Anyway you slice it if you don't even know your line combinations heading into the weekend you are going to be in big trouble. The Rams allowed four sacks to the Cardinals in the first meeting.

For the Rams look for more of the same as they will need to establish Steven Jackson on the ground and hope to get some big plays from Brandon Lloyd. With the loss of Mark Clayton for the year it does not appear that the Rams passing attack is going to pick up any time soon. Sam Bradford is still near the bottom of the league (29th) in QB rating and has been off target of late.

The Cardinals have their own problems as they are in the bottom third of every major offensive category. In addition they are unsure heading into the game if Kevin Kolb will be ready to return from his toe injury or if they will have to go with John Skelton once again. Skelton played well against the Rams in the previous matchup going 20 of 35 for 222 yards and a touchdown. Skelton will look to get big plays from Early Doucet and Larry Fitzgerald against the Rams banged up secondary.

This game will most likely be a carbon copy of the first game as both teams will slug it out in an attempt to get points on the board. On the ground I like Steven Jackson over Beanie Wells but through the air the Cardinals have more big play potential. I think it will come down to the offensive line play and at this point you just can't trust the Rams blocking. Sam Bradford does not feel safe in the pocket and I do not think he will be safe today either.

St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks Grades

Quarterbacks (D+)
Lets face it right now Sam Bradford is struggling. Sam does not seem comfortable in the pocket, has not been accurate and is locking onto receivers mainly Brandon Lloyd. Sam Bradford was 20 of 40 for 181 with a touchdown and interception and 60.5 QB rating against Seattle. The Rams failed to score over the final 54 minutes of game time and that just is not good enough.

Running backs (C)
If you take away Steven Jackson's meaningless 19 yard run on 3rd and 26 he was only able to gain 23 yards on 14 carries. The Rams who came into the game with offensive line issues needed a big game from Jackson. Jackson had four carries in the first quarter for 2 yards. Their simply was no where for Jackson to run in this one.

Wide Receivers (C)
The Rams receivers were once again led by Brandon Lloyd who had five catches for 67 yards including a nice 30 yard touchdown early in the first quarter to put the Rams up 7-0. The Rams had 4 receivers catch a pass including the welcomed return of Mark Clayton who caught three balls for 26 yards. The receivers made the plays they could make.

Offensive Line (F)
Well when you are forced to go with Kevin Hughes at left tackle you are hoping to just keep Sam Bradford alive which they did manage to do. However their was no room to run as the Rams averaged 2.5 yards per carry. Bardford was sacked five times and fumbled twice. The high priced offensive line and injuries are costing the Rams big time.

Special Teams (D)
Donnie Jones who was forced to punt 10 times was not his usual self even though he did average 44.1 yards per punt. His kicks for the most part were low and right down the middle of the field to Leon Washington, not the best idea and he made them pay. Josh Brown was overpaid as he only had to kick an extra point and one kick off. Austin Pettis catching a punt at the goal line was also a huge mistake.

Defense (C+)
The Rams only allowed 289 yards but they did allow 24 points and let the Seahawks control the ball for 35 minutes. On the bright side they held Marshawn Lynch to 3.3 yards a carry, had four sacks, two interceptions and forced three fumbles.

Coaching (F)
Just another terrible effort by this staff. Five wide set with a third string LT and a shaky Sam Bradford? Five straight passes to start the game without trying to establish the run with Jackson. No screen passes. Constant four yard pass patterns. So conservative 4th and 2 with less than eight minutes to play and we punt. Special teams always seem lost and have a lack of fundamentals. Right side of Seattle's O-line were out why were we not blitzing right behind Chris Long and just destroying them in the backfield.

Rams vs. Seahawks Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams will face a similar foe today in the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks much like the Cleveland Browns and our own St. Louis Rams suffer from a lack of offense and a ton of injuries. Seattle has lost the entire right side of their offensive line in Tackle John Moffitt and Guard James Carpenter. Chris Long should be able to take huge advantage of this and get after Tavaris Jackson all day.

On offense Seattle has been led by Marshawn Lynch who is hot of late with back to back 100 yard efforts against the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. If Lynch can run against those two teams he can certainly run against the Rams. Through the air the Seahawks like to strike deep with Doug Baldwin and Sidney Rice who both average over 15 yards per catch. Tavaris Jackson is still in the bottom tier of quarterbacks and is 154 of 254 for 1773 yards 6 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions with a QB rating of 74.8.

The St. Louis Rams have their own struggles as they will be without their starting tackles Rodger Saffold who tore a pectoral muscle this week and will be out for the season and Jason Smith who has been out due to a concussion for several weeks. The Rams are still led by Steven Jackson who seemed to single handedly beat the Cleveland Browns last week with his will and determination. Look for the Rams to pound the rock all day again with Jackson. Through the air young Sam Bradford is still struggling. With the rotation offensive line, receivers and new system it is to be expected but the excuses need to stop and he simply needs to make some plays.

This game will be another battle of field position and ball control. Look for the punters to have a huge say in the outcome of this one. Jon Ryan and Donnie Jones are two of the best in the business. In the return game Austin Pettis or Leon Washingon could make the difference.

The Rams always seem to take Seattle for granted. This is a game where both teams coming in say we should win this one. Seattle plays very hard for Pete Carroll and with a lot of emotion and that could be the difference today. Seattle is coming off a huge win against Baltimore and I just trust them more. Seattle has played more consistent and been in more of their games. In addition the Rams are super conservative behind coach Steve Spagnuolo, their red zone offense is terrible and Sam Bradford only has four touchdown passes. I look for the Seahawks to get by in a close one.

Rams Roll Past Browns 13-12

For the second straight week the Rams game came down to special teams late. Last week the Rams suffered a 19-13 OT loss to the Arizona Cardinals as Josh Brown's 42 yard FG was blocked as time expired and then Patrick Peterson returned a punt for a 99 yard game winning TD. The Rams were on the other side of luck today as Phil Dawson missed a 22 yard field goal with 2:10 to play and the Rams held on for a 13-12 victory.

Nobody thought that Phil Dawson who holds the Browns record for field goals and had made 16 of 18 attempts in 2011 could possibly miss a 22 yard field goal. Long snapper Ryan Pontbriand double clutched the snap and by the time the ball traveled back it hit guard Alex Mack's ankle on the way back to holder Brad Maynard. Maynard got the ball down late and the timing was off and Dawson pushed the ball off to the left and the Rams had their second victory of the season.

This was another ugly game for the Rams but they were able to pull out the victory. This was one of the rare games that the Rams were a negative on turnover differential (-1) but were able to win the game. Steven Jackson was again the star of the game for the Rams running 27 times for 128 yards including two carries for 11 yards on the last drive to run out the clock. The Rams did manage to score a TD their 10th of the season on a 7 yard TD pass from Sam Bradford to Brandon Lloyd.

The Rams continue to play very conservative football and lets face it after 2 1/2 seasons it is obvious that coach Steve Spagnuolo likes it that way. The Rams were only able to manage 281 yards of offense and 13 points. Sam Bradford continues to look for open receivers and continues to not play very well. Sam once again put up his normal stat line 15 of 26 for 155 yards with 1 TD and 1 pick. With Jacksonville scoring 17 points today the Rams are once again dead last in points scored per game at 12.6.

The Rams defense again made stars of players that are not known to be great. The Rams allowed former Rams running back Chris Ogbonnaya to rush for 90 yards on 19 carries and Colt McCoy completed almost 75 percent of his passes and had a QB rating of 97.5. Pat Shurmer who could be the only coach more conservative than Steve Spagnuolo continually settled for field goals and that was the difference.

With every team in the NFC West winning on Sunday the Rams remain in last place and will now play four straight division games. The Rams will play the Seattle Seahawks (3-6) at home at the Edward Jones Dome next Sunday.

Rams vs. Browns Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams will look to bounce back from last weeks heartbreaking loss to the Arizona Cardinals against the Cleveland Browns (3-5). The Browns have lost two in a row and four of their last five games. Much like the St. Louis Rams the Browns have also struggled on offense scoring only 28 points over the last three weeks.

The only thing separating the Browns from the Rams is the Rams were unable to win games against Washington and Arizona that they should have won. These teams are very similar, both have young quarterbacks, both have to change a losing culture and both are in the bottom third of almost every offensive and defensive category. In addition both teams have unproven head coaches and have suffered heavy injuries to their squads.

The Rams must get a better effort today from Sam Bradford who did practice more this week. People don't want to hear it but Bradford is not having a good year and has even been outplayed by Colt McCoy who has ten TD passes compared to Bradfords three. A lot of the problems with Bradford is turnover in the receiving core and that will continue today. The Rams lost their leading receiver Greg Salas last week to a broken leg, and this week Mark Clayton will make his season debut coming off of the PUP list. With the recent lack of practice for Bradford and the turnover at WR and on the O-line Bradford does have some excuses but he is just going to have to make plays anyway.

The Browns lost their starting guard Eric Steinbach to a season ending injury before the season started and the injuries have not stopped there. The Browns will be without their two top running backs Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty meaning they will be going with former Rams running back Chris Ogbonnaya. Ogbonnaya has struggled this year gaining only 80 yards on 27 carries. With the loss of WR Mohamed Massaquoi to injury the Browns will need to rely mainly on Josh Cribbs to move the ball against the Rams. If there is a team in the NFL with less talent on the field than the Rams it is the Browns.

Like last week this is another good matchup for the Rams. They again will need to use their winning formula of running the rock, playing it safe and winning the turnover battle. The Browns are 30th against the rush and Steven Jackson has looked great with a 5.1 yards per carry average. The Browns lead the league in pass defense so Sam Bradford needs to be sure of his throws and needs to get the ball to Brandon Lloyd and Mark Clayton for some big plays.

The Rams only have nine touchdowns through eight games this season so I still do not expect much from the Rams offense but they should have enough to beat the Cleveland Browns. The Rams should eaisly be able to shut down Ogbonnaya and come after Colt McCoy all day. The Rams will run the rock with Jackson and will need to find their way into the endzone at least once. If they can contain Josh Cribbs they should be able to put a W in the win column. As you all know the Rams have made stars of players like Ogbonnaya in the past, lets hope today is not one of those days.

Rams vs. Cardinals Game Preview

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford will most likely miss his third straight game due to a high ankle sprain that he suffered in a 24-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Arizona Cardinals will most likely be without quarterback Kevin Kolb who has a turf toe injury. So Sunday's game could feature A.J. Feeley vs. John Skelton in a battle of 1-6 teams. The Arizona Cardinals have won eight of their last nine games against the St. Louis Rams. The Rams next four opponents (Arizona, Cleveland, Seattle) have a combined 7-21 record. Could the Rams battle back to a 5-6 record?

Rams fans should never underestimate a backup QB, as we know some have greatness inside. John Skelton 6-6 245 out of Fordham did start four games in 2010 and led the Cardinals to victories over Denver and Dallas. Overall Skelton was 60 of 126 for 662 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions with a 62.3 QB rating.

The Arizona Cardinals could also be without their starting running back Beanie Wells. If Wells can not go lets hope the Rams do not make a star of Alfonso Smith who has 26 carries for 90 yards this season. The Rams were able to hold the Saints to 56 yards on the ground last week.

The Rams were able to score 31 points last week but don't look past the fact that they still only put up 323 total yards. The Rams were able to take full advantage of a blocked punt, a pick 6 and nice play in the Red Zone to put up those points. A.J. Feeley was a solid 20 of 37 for 175 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams finally have a nice matchup against Arizona. The Cardinals are 25th in rushing offense and the Rams started to tackle much better last week. The Rams need to put pressure on Skelton and when they get to him they need to bring him down.

The Rams have had the same formula over the past few years to win games and they will deploy it again today. To win the Rams must feed the ball to Steven Jackson 20+ times, control the ball and win the turnover battle. The Rams are still not explosive however their is a vast improvement with Brandon Lloyd on the field. Lloyd already has 12 receptions for 127 yards and a TD, and he has been open all over the field.

The Cardinals have lost six straight and the Rams looked good last week. I like the fact that the Rams won 19-6 in Arizona last year. I think this may be a pretty ugly game with each team trying to just control the ball and play mistake free. Steven Jackson looked to be at 100 percent last week and he will be the key today. The Rams will feed him the rock and win a close one out in the desert.

Rams vs. Saints Game Preview

Well there does not appear to be a huge need for a matchup story this week as the St. Louis Rams take on the (5-2) New Orleans Saints. The Rams 0-6 record combined with the St. Louis Cardinals World Series parade in the afternoon may translate into an empty Edward Jones Dome. The last time the Saints were in town the dome was at least half full of Saints fans so look for more of the same on Sunday.

This is another terrible matchup for the Rams who will once again be without Sam Bradford. The Saints lead the league in scoring while the Rams are dead last in scoring. Drew Brees who was nearly perfect last week in a 62-7 pounding of the Colts is 212 of 299 for 2477 yards and 18 TDs through only seven games. The Rams will be without CB Justin King as they take on the 2nd ranked passing offense in the NFL. The Saints like to spread the ball around as six difference receivers have 20+ receptions while the Rams have no receivers with 20 receptions yet. With Mark Ingram out the Saints will look to pound
Pierre Thomas on the ground against the Rams 32nd ranked rushing defense which was torched by DeMarco Murray and the Dallas Cowboys last week.

The Rams are near the bottom of every offensive and defensive category and are looking to just compete in a game. The Rams are -115 in point differential and have trailed by double digits in every game. With A.J. Feeley in at quarterback look for Steve Jackson to get a heavy workload. Jackson looked to be at 100% last week against the Cowboys. The addition of Brandon Lloyd will give Feeley a great target to take advantage of the Saints secondary.

There is really not much I can say here. The Rams have scored 56 point in six games while the Saints have scored 27 TDs!!! The only team that can beat the Saints on Sunday is the Saints. The Rams will need to pound the rock, chew up the clock and hope to get a couple of interceptions against Brees. I just don't see it happening.

Cowboys Run Away From Rams 34-7

The St. Louis Rams were run over 34-7 by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. With Felix Jones out of the Cowboys lineup DeMarco Murray a teammate of Sam Bradford was inserted as their starting running back. All Murray did was set a franchise-record with 253 yards rushing including a 91 yard touchdown run on his first carry of the game giving Dallas an early 7-0 lead. Once again the St. Louis Rams never played with the lead and trailed by double digits for well over half of the game.

Once Cadilac Williams fumbled late in the first quarter and the Cowboys converted that turnover into a Jason Witten TD the game was basically over. The Rams who came in the game last in scoring and 23rd in total yards were only able to score seven points and gain 265 total yards as they were shutdown by the Cowboys defense. The Rams pulled within 14-7 when Steven Jackson was able to rip off 46 yards on back to back carries including a 40 yarder. For the game Jackson had 70 yards on 18 carries, however for the most part he was locked down. If you take away the 40 yard run Jackson gained 30 yards on 17 carries, as the Cowboys showed why they have the #1 ranked rushing defense in the NFL.

A.J. Feeley who was playing for the injured Sam Bradford completed 20 of 33 passes for 196 yards on mostly dump off passes. Feeley was intercepted once on what appeared to be a miscommunication with new wide receiver Brandon Lloyd who stopped on a route over the middle and Mike Jenkins was able to easily make the play. On the bright side Brandon Lloyd who joined the Rams six days ago was able to lead the team with six catches for 74 yards. The Rams are still unable to move the ball quickly or explosively. Other than a late game 34 yard catch and run from Lloyd the Rams were not able to do much threw the air. The Rams only had four other receptions made by wide receivers.

The Rams who were already last against the run were shredded for 294 yards on 34 carries. To make matters worse the Cowboys were without their starting running back Felix Jones. Besides DeMarco Murray running all over the field someone named Phillip Tanner out of Middle Tennessee State was able to gain 34 yards on six carries and score a TD. The interior of the Rams defensive line as well as their linebackers are often well out of position to make plays.

The Rams were able to contain Tony Romo who seemed a little lost throughout the game often letting the play clock get down to one second while motioning players all over the field. Even though Romo was not a huge factor he did have a 107 QB rating on a efficient 14 of 24 for 166 yards and two touchdown passes. Justin King and Al Harris did a great job on Miles Austin holding him 16 yards on 2 receptions.

The Rams will need to hope that they can get Sam Bradford, Brandon Lloyd and Mark Clayton all out on the field next week against the New Orleans Saints to have a chance. Its the NFL so everyone has a chance but I know the Rams are not going to beat the Saints by scoring only 7-10 points. The Saints are averaging 30 points and 450+ yards per game, not a good matchup for the Rams.

Rams vs. Cowboys Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams (0-5) will take on the Dallas Cowboys (2-3) on Sunday without their star quarterback Sam Bradford due to a high ankle sprain. The Rams are a team in flux right now. The Rams will be forced to start A.J. Feeley who has barely thrown for over 1000 yards total since 2004. The Rams will also have a new receiver on the field Sunday after trading for
Brandon Lloyd. The Rams have been rotating in lineman, linebackers and corners since the season began and their 25th
ranked defense shows it.

The Rams will once again take on a 3-4 defense on Sunday. Dallas has played very well on defense and are currently 5th in yards allowed and with some decent play from quarterback Tony Romo they could easily be 5-0. Jason Smith, Rodger Saffold and Steven Jackson are going to have their hands full trying to block Anthony Spencer & DeMarcus Ware who have combined for 10 sacks. Steven Jackson will also be going up against the #1 ranked rushing defense which is not going to help AJ Feeley ease back into action.

The St. Louis Rams have just not played well and have yet to play 60 minutes of football. The Rams have trailed by double digits in all 5 games and have a -88 point differential, worst in the NFL. The Rams have a dubious combination of being dead last in scoring and 30th in scoring defense. Hopefully with the addition of Brandon Lloyd and Mark Clayton the Rams offense will start to turn the corner as the season continues. The Cowboys will be within starting running back Felix Jones which will force them to go with Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray who have combined for 138 yards on 50 carries. The Rams will need to contain the Cowboys running game so they can focus getting pressure on Tony Romo.

I must admit I just can't drink any kool-aid this weekend. I know fans get mad when I do not predict a Rams victory but I am a realist and tell you my honest opinion. The 2011 St. Louis Rams are currently not a good football team. There are just terrible matchups all over in this game. You have the 34 year old A.J. Feeley being protected by a suspect line while being chased by Spencer and Ware, and Steven Jackson going up against the best rushing defense in the league. On the other side of the ball you have Justin King and Al Harris trying to defend against Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. In addition you can add to that mix the Rams linebackers trying to cover Jason Witten who already has 31 receptions on the year. I expect the Cowboys to play their best game of the year tomorrow.

Sam Bradford Out For Dallas Game

Sam Bradford will miss Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys due to the high ankle sprain that he suffered last week against the Green Bay Packers. This will be the first game Bradford has missed during his NFL career.

Lets be honest there is no reason to rush out an injured Sam Bradford onto the field this weekend. The St. Louis Rams are 0-5 and while mathematically the season isn't over we don't need to jeopardize 2011 and beyond for one game. Sam Bradford has already been sacked more times (21) than any quarterback in the league and he would be facing Demarcus Ware and a tough Dallas defense on Sunday. In addition the Rams offense has yet to take off under Josh McDaniels. The Rams are last in scoring and Bradford is 30th in QB rating. Sam has not practiced all week and the Rams now have a new receiver in the fold with the trade for Brandon Lloyd. I think it is an excellent decision to rest Bradford this Sunday. Hopefully Bradford can rest the ankle and be ready to go next week at home against the New Orleans Saints.

Rams vs. Packers Game Preview

The 0-4 St. Louis Rams will take on the 5-0 World Champion Green Bay Packers at historic Lambeau Field starting at noon on Sunday. The Green Bay Packers are an absolute buzzsaw. The Green Bay Packers have won the last 11 games they have played. Green
Bay's last loss came way back on 12/19/2010 when they lost 31-27 to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

The Packers lead the league in scoring with almost 35 points per game. The Packers are 4th in total yards, 4th in passing and 22nd in rushing. Even though James Starks and Ryan Grant have only combined for 425 yards on the ground they have averaged 4.43
yards per carry. Aaron Rodgers is on fire going 129 of 180 for 1721 yards with 14 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions and a QB rating on 122.9!

This is an absolute terrible matchup for the St. Louis Rams. The Packers will throw the ball all over the lot while Justin King and Al Harris try to keep up. Josh Gordy is our #3 corner heading into this game. Don't kid yourself Green Bay will do what they want to do in this one.

On the bright side the Rams have already played two teams that play the 3-4. In addition Al Harris can give us some inside scoop on the Packers. Steven Jackson claims to be back to 100% but even that is tempered by the fact that the Packers are 3rd against the rush.

The Rams have just been terrible on offense. The Rams head into this one dead last in scoring, 31st in total yards, 28th in passing and 25th in rushing. Those numbers are just not good enough to play against a team like the Packers. My biggest concern is that Sam Bradford has completed less than 50% of his throws for the season. Sam Bradford is 75 of 151 for 849 yards with 3 td passes and only 1 interception while being sacked 18 times and has a QB rating of 70.8. The offensive line must improve and Sam must improve.

The Rams are coming off of a bye week so hopefully they worked on some fundamentals. The Rams O-line must have a tremendous game to stay in this one. With Jacob Bell hurt the Rams may start Tony Wragge at Left Guard. If that happens look for the Packers who only have 12 sacks and Clay Matthews who only has one sack to exploit that area.

There is really no way to sugar coat this one. The Rams will have to be at least +3 in the turnover margin to even compete in this game. The Packers are truly that good. We have to hope they overlook the Rams and come out a little sluggish. However even when they started slow in Atlanta they pulled away and won by 11. I just don't see anything good happening in this one.

Week 5 Suicide Fantasy Football Results

I am once again playing a great fantasy football game called Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker but you can only use each player ONCE during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

Behind huge games from Cam Newton and Fred Jackson I had the 10th best total in Week 5 with 107.16 points. I have moved up from 24th to 20th overall in the Suicide Fantasy Football NFL Expert League through 5 weeks of play. I will most likely need to put up 90+ points to have any chance to move up further in the standings.

There are some great off name players to use this week but I am going to try and stay hot and roll the stars out. I hate to do it but I have to pick on the St. Louis Rams. How can the Green Bay Packers not have a huge week against the Rams. I will be going with Aaron Rodgers, Darren McFadden, Matt Forte, Wes Welker, Greg Jennings , Jermichael Finley, Sebastian Janikowski and Green Bay Packers defense. These are some great matchups I hope they play up to their potential.

Week 4 Suicide Fantasy Football Results

I am once again playing a great fantasy football game called Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker but you can only use each player ONCE during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

Of course Tom Brady burns me with his worst game of the year, at least the Patriots lost making it all worthwhile. I was able to put up 83.44 points week 4 behind big weeks from Ray Rice and LeGarrette Blount. The 83 points was enough to move me from 30th to 24th place in the NFL Expert League. I will once again need to put up 80-100 points to have any chance to move up further in the standings.

I am going to jump on the Cam Newton bandwagon this week knowing that they will be in a scoring war with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints will allow you to rake up a ton of years and that is what I am looking for here. I will be playing Cam Newton, Arian Foster, Fred Jackson, Vincent Jackson, Roddy White, Greg Olsen, Neil Rackers and the New York Giants defense will round out the rest of my Week 5 squad.

Danny Amendola Lost For The Season

Danny Amendola has a torn triceps muscle in his left arm and will need season ending surgery. Amendola suffered a dislocated elbow in week 1 in a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and apparently aggravated the triceps in a practice late last week. The Rams who are 31st in scoring and 27th in passing were looking forward to getting Amendola back at some point but that hope is now gone.

Again the Rams seem to suffer from bad luck but they continually place themselves in this position. Everyone knows that the Rams need to surround Sam Bradford with weapons instead we draft a defensive end in the first round that missed his last season and we already had James Hall who led the Rams in sacks and over-priced Chris Long, the need was at wideout. The Rams followed that up with another tight end selection and then selected receivers Austin Pettis and Greg Salas who have combined for 11 catches for 88 yards and many many drops.

One of the Rams four pillars should be to bring in some stars. The Rams really needed to find a way to select either A. J. Green or Julio Jones. The Cincinnati Bengals are 2-2 behind Andy Dalton and A. J. Green who already has 19 receptions for 312 yards and 2 touchdowns. Julio Jones on Atlanta has 24 receptions for 342 yards and is ranked 11th in the NFL in both categories.

The Rams continue to play everything safe and they will continue to draft in the top five of the NFL Draft.

Bradley Fletcher Lost For The Season

Bradley Fletcher tore his ACL during Tuesday practice when he collided with Mike Sims-Walker. An MRI exam revealed that Fletcher has a torn ACL in his knee and will need surgery. The Rams already had lost Ron Bartell and Jerome Murphy for the season.

Back in 2009 Fletcher sustained two torn ligaments in his right knee during his third pro game in the second half of a 42-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Rams who are now without their three top corners are left with only Justin King, Al Harris, Rod Hood and Josh Gordy. Not the best situation sitting at 0-4 and heading into a game against Aaron Rodgers and the World Champion Green Bay Packers.

Rams Drop Another 17-10 To Redskins

The 2011 St. Louis Rams season sounds like a broken record as the Rams continue to fall behind big, miss tackles and assignments, drop passes, take penalties and fail to execute in the red zone. With all of that being said the Rams were only 19 yards away from tying their contest against the Washington Redskins at 17 with only 5:30 to play after an interception by James Laurinaitis.
Then came ten of the worst plays Rams fans could bare to watch. The Rams ran 10 plays in the last 5:30 and gained a total of -4 yards, that's right -4 total yards! From the nineteen yard line the Rams threw an incomplete pass, were called for a 5 yard penalty, were sacked twice and used a timeout before punting on 4th and 30! The Rams did not attempt one run. The Rams were 2 of 7 passing for 14 yards while being sacked three times during those ten plays! That was most likely the end of the 2011 season as the Rams head into the bye week 0-4 and three games out of first place in the NFC West behind the San Francisco 49ers.

So far eight teams have scored 30+ points today including the Green Bay Packers scoring 49 which is more than the Rams have scored all season (46). Only the Jacksonville Jaguars have scored less points (39) than the St. Louis Rams. The Rams went out and got Sam Bradford a franchise quarterback but still have no playmakers. The Rams managed 172 yards on 67 plays which is an embarrassment. Sam Bradford now has a 70.8 QB rating which is 30th in the league. Today he missed some throws, throws were dropped, receivers were not open and he was getting killed in the pocket getting sacked seven times!

The Rams need weapons and sorry I like the guy and think we is a tank but Steven Jackson is just a 3 yard back with this team and offensive line. Steven Jackson had 17 carries for 45 yards with a long of 13 yards which he had on his second carry only 29 seconds into the game. After that carry Jackson had 15 carries for 32 yards, simply not good enough. No other Rams runningback had a carry or reception, why?

The Rams will head into their bye week 0-4 while being outscored 113-46. The Rams coaching staff needs to look in the mirror while Stan Kronke starts to look in his phonebook.

Rams vs. Redskins Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams enter their game Sunday against the Washington Redskins with an 0-3 record. The Rams have been blown out three weeks in a row and have made more mistakes than I can count. The Rams are 29th in points scored, 31st in points allowed, 31st in yards allowed and Sam Bradford is 29th in QB rating. Adding to our misery is the fact that our bell cow Steven Jackson has been limited to 6 carries after being injured on his initial carry of the season, a touchdown run against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even with the NFC West not being very good and the season still being early this appears to be a must win for the St. Louis Rams. The Rams are 0-3 and have upcoming games at Green Bay and Dallas. Without a win against Washington tomorrow it is quiet possible that the Rams will start the 2011 season 0-6. The Rams must step up. Sam Bradford must play better. Steven Jackson must get on the field and stay on the field. Receivers must catch the ball and the offensive line must block.

The St. Louis Rams again look on paper and also according to Las Vegas are the underdogs. Well it is time for the underdog to step up. Rams fans thought we were going to be improved in 2011 but the Redskins are improved. The Rams need to play close to a perfect game every week to compete. With a thinning tailgate and game crowd already in week three the Rams can't afford another loss. The Rams next home game will be almost a month away when they face the Saints on Ovtober 30th, they can not be 0-6 at that time. With new owner Stan Kronke keeping a close eye on everything the time is now to show what we have and the Rams better show it on Sunday.

Ryan Kerrigan, Brian Orakpo, London Fletcher and others will try to turn the heat up on Sam Bradford on Sunday. Bradley Fletcher and Justin King will have to find a way to shutdown Santana Moss. Typically this is a game I would predict the Rams to lose but they have their back to the wall and I am hoping they can pull this one out.

Phillip Rivers fails to light up the lowly Kansas City Chiefs, Kenny Britt goes down to a season ending injury and Steve Steve does nothing against Jacksonville. That all adds up to a bad week. My week 3 teams scored 64.54 points which was enough to move me up to 30th place. I am in need of another big week like I had in week 2. I am already 90+ points out of first place and can't afford to fall any further behind.

I hate Tom Brady but I need points what can I say. What better week than after throwing 4 ints. Brady will have a huge game against Oakland unless they can knock him out of the game. Ray Rice, LeGarrette Blount, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Wallace, Rob Gronkowski, Connor Barth and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense will round out the rest of my Week 4 squad.

St. Louis Rams Sign CB Rod Hood

Well it appears the St. Louis Rams at least noticed that rookie WR Torrey Smith, who didn’t have an NFL catch prior to Sunday torched Justin King for three touchdown catches because they signed veteran CB Rod Hood on Tuesday. Hood has prior experience with the Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Tennessee Titans.

For a team that currently has Justin King, Bradley Fletcher, Al Harris & Josh Gordy as their four cornerbacks I am glad the Rams picked up someone. Hood has played in 93 NFL games and two Super Bowls with the Eagles and Cardinals. Hood is 5-11, 200 pounds and has good speed. The Rams will most likely press him into action on Sunday against the Washington Redskins. The Rams created a roster opening by releasing 2011 5th round draft pick safety Jermale Hines. Another wasted pick if you are keeping count.

St. Louis Rams vs. Baltimore Ravens Grades

Quarterbacks - D
Alright here is the deal this team has to make some plays and that falls on the QB. I know the defense let up 37 points but there is no rule that we can't score first. Sam Bradford was 1 of 7 for 4 yards and was sacked twice in the first quarter! 29th in QB rating just not good enough.

Runningbacks - C
We dress Steven Jackson but he gets only 4 carries yet he is on the field in the 4th quarter. We need players that can play 60 minutes. 112 yards on 26 carries but 22 of those yards were from Sam Bradford. Cadillac was ok but nothing spectacular.

Wide Receivers - D
The Rams completed 12 passes to the wide receivers but other than the 34 yard TD pass from Bradford to Gibson on a scramble while down 30-0 they did not produce much (11 catches for 83 yards). The Rams wide outs are not getting open or separating from coverage.

Offensive Line - F
Lets quit covering for these guys. Three high priced free agents and two top draft picks on this line and week in and week out they disappoint. Sam Bradford once again took a pounding and was sacked five times! The Rams ran for 4.3 yards per carry but there are no gapping holes that is for sure. Also lets work on blitz pickup shall we.

Special Teams C
The score was 37-7 so special teams were a non factor. Donnie Jones averaged 46.5 per punt and Josh Brown had no field goals. Rams kick coverage was average at best but not much of a factor.

Defense - F
The Ravens put up 37 points, had 553 total yards, scored seven times and missed two field goals. The Rams defense gave the team no chance to win as the Ravens put up over 400 yards in the first half alone. Justin King should have earned a plane ticket home based on his play.

Coaching - F
Where to start. The Rams seemed unprepared. The Ravens known for ball control had a game plan and it was to use their speed against the Rams weakest corner. Lance Kendricks on an end-around? If Steven Jackson is hurt let him rest. Screens can work against a top pass rush like the Ravens yet the Rams completed one pass to the runningbacks for 4 total yards. Can the Rams coaches ever improve the line play?

Rams vs. Ravens Game Preview

After two mistake filled double digit losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants the St. Louis Rams face a near must win game against the Baltimore Ravens (1-1) Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome. It appears the Rams will possibly go into the game without the services of Steven Jackson and Cadillac Williams who have injury concerns. If that is indeed true the Rams will be trying to run the rock against the Ravens defense with Jerious Norwood and Quinn Porter. Norwood was only given 3 carries against the Giants last week and Porter has no lifetime carries in the NFL, so all I can say is I hope Cadillac Williams can find the magic water before game
time.

The Rams appear to already be digging their own hole and returning to their losing ways. The Rams have started 0-2 six straight seasons. The Rams have not had a winning record since 2003 almost a decade ago. The Rams are in the bottom five in scoring and scoring defense. Sure we have Sam Bradford but we need some wins and some excitement to jump start this franchise. Even though we are only two weeks into the season it appears obvious the Rams failed to surround Sam with any play makers. We are lucky that Danario Alexander is local and never gave up and the Rams finally gave him a chance.

On the bright side the Baltimore Ravens are not very explosive and win many games on the strength of their defense. The Ravens will look to bound the ball inside with Ray Rice possibly the best all around runningback in the NFL. Once they establish Rice Joe Flacco will use play action and try to go deep to Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans. Luckily for the Rams Evans is out with an ankle injury. The Ravens had a great home win against their rival the Pittsburgh Steelers and then laid an egg on the road at Tennessee. Which Ravens squad will show up this week?

On defense the Ravens are going to cause the Rams offensive line a lot of problems. Haloti Ngata, Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs are going to attack the Rams line with the absence of Steven Jackson. The Rams will be forced to throw the ball and to date nobody has really stepped up to make the Rams effective through the air.

The Rams have only seven first downs running the ball and they are under 25% on 3rd down conversions, this simply is not good enough with the lack of talent on this team. The Rams have only allowed seven sacks but their has been constant pressure and hits put on Sam Bradford. In order for the Rams to beat the Baltimore Ravens they are going to need to give Sam time to throw in the pocket.

The St. Louis Rams are coming off a short week and will be without starters Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola again. The Baltimore Ravens will be in a foul mood after getting picked apart by the Tennessee Titans. The Ravens are going to stack the box and bring pressure throughout the game and they have just the personnel to do it.
