Dominating Suh

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Ndamukong Suh dominated the Arizona Wildcats 33-0 in the Holiday Bowl. The Nebraska defense held the Wildcats to 108 total yards, in what could only be called an embarrassing display from Arizona.

As for Suh he had 3 tackles, one for loss and a roughing the passer penalty, the only time he touched the QB all night. In fairness Arizona did not really attempt to run up the middle or do much more on this night. Suh was rarely moved backwards and stays in his lane and then will shed the blocker to make a play. On this night I thought he was far from dominating and on a few plays did not hustle to the end. In fairness to Suh Arizona was not exactly going to go looking for him.

I agree that Suh can be dominating and is one of the best players in college football. During the Holiday Bowl Suh played both tackle positions, defensive end a few times, and even played on offense in the Red Zone. Suh is definitely one of the strongest players in college football but make no mistake Nebraska has some very good players on defense besides him. On this night the hype from ESPN about Suh was a bit much. Suh had two total tackles for most of the game and ESPN showed replays of both tackles numerous times.

I stick by my previous statements that I would NEVER draft a DT in the first round especially the top of the first round. To give a DT 60-70 million dollars I think is just a mistake. A great DT will have around 40 tackles for a season and rarely do they dominate a game in the NFL. Remember that Suh will not be playing against any 19 or 20 year old centers and guards in the NFL. There will be plenty of players in the NFL that can block Suh and teams can also game plan for him better than in college. Albert Haynesworth hands down the best DT in the NFL was given 100 million dollars to play for the Washington Redskins. Due to injury Haynesworth has only played in 12 games this season. The Redskins are 20th in rushing defense and have a record of 4-11 on the season. Do not expect miracles if the Rams draft Ndamukong Suh. Remember the Redskins also have rookie DE Brian Orakpo who has 11 QB sacks on the season and the Redskins are still 20th in points allowed. My last fact is Clifton Ryan has more tackles in 2009 than Albert Haynesworth. I just believe at this point in time the Rams have to get some help on offense and for Steven Jackson. I believe the Rams should go for some playmakers with their top picks in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Steven Jackson Makes 2010 NFL Pro Bowl

Steven Jackson has made the NFC 2010 Pro Bowl roster. Jackson is one of 3 running backs on the squad including DeAngelo Williams and starter Adrian Peterson. Jackson more than deserves this honor after putting the St. Louis Rams on his back week in and week out. Steven Jackson will be the only St. Louis Rams player on the NFC Pro Bowl roster.

Steven Jackson leads the NFC is rushing yards with 1353 even after missing last weeks contest. In addition Steven leads all Rams with 51 receptions for an additional 322 yards. Although teams have stacked the line against Steven, he still has managed to run for 100+ yards in 7 of the 14 games he has played in. Jackson has also caught a pass in 13 straight games. Jackson trails only Chris Johnson in rushing yards, and only Johnson and Ray Rice in total yards.

With all the great stats Steven Jackson has posted in 2009 the best thing about him has been his leadership. Steven has said wonderful things after games proving he is now the team leader. Steven continues to play in great pain when asked if he should just shut it down for the year, he said no way he needs to show the younger players that even great, high paid athletes need to give it their all game in and game out.

Congrats to Steven Jackson on making the Pro Bowl you sure deserve it!

Merry Christmas St. Louis Rams Fans!!!

Due to vacation, computer issues, and Christmas we are a little behind this week, but hey that is what vacation is about right? I want to wish everyone and their families a great Christmas weekend. For those still interested in the 1-13 St. Louis Rams or the NFL in general we have posted our weekly predictions and a couple of other items. Still working on the Power Rankings for this week, and the officail injury report should be out tomorrow. In addition if the in-laws are bugging you don't forget the San Diego Chargers @ Tennessee Titans will be on tonight. This should be like a playoff game. I am not sure the Titans have enough secondary players to beat San Diego but I look for them to play a smash mouth game tonight. It should be a good one.

St. Louis Rams Draftathon Is Underway

Rams fans phone lines are now open and operators are standing by to talk trade with the Rams after their 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Rams loss, their 13th of the season and 40th in their last 46 games, combined with a victory by Tampa Bay over the Seattle Seahawks puts the Rams in the #1 draft position of the 2010 NFL Draft. With only two games remaining in the 2009 season the St. Louis Rams are in position to draft any college football player eligible for the draft. With tons of teams wanting Ndamukong Suh the Rams phone should start ringing soon with some deals. Will there be deals to help the St. Louis Rams turn around their franchise sooner than later?

Rams Fall 16-13 To Texans

On the bright side the St. Louis Rams truly did play hard during their 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Rams were actually able to hold a 10-6 lead for 11 minutes and 32 seconds. A close loss like this one in a way is worse than a blowout because it shows that we just need a couple more playmakers and we could find ways to win games like these.

Keith Null was decent going 18 of 27 for 173 yards and a TD. Steven Jackson is simply the Rams best player and on the surface the player that cares the most about winning. Steven Jackson who had a noticeable limp in pregame warm-up and during the game in addition to his back pain and sickness this week muscled through with a gritty effort. Jackson accounted for 123 of the Rams 237 total yards. He also had time to get in a fight with SS Bernard Pollard - Watch the fight video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KqQuuFmx9Q. The Rams special teams were outstanding once again. Danny Amendola not only set up a TD with a 55 yard kickoff return he also caught a TD pass from Keith Null. Josh Brown was 2 for 2 on field goals including a 52 yarder. Donnie Jones who seems to be great week in a week out allowed no return yards and also downed two punts inside the 20. The Rams defense held the Houston Texans to 2.2 yards per carry. The defense was also good on 3rd down holding the Texans to 5 for 14 on the day. This allowed the defense to get off the field and along with their red zone defense stay in the game.

Speaking of playmakers the Texans have one of the best in the league in wideout Andre Johnson. Johnson will easily lead the NFL in receiving yards in 2009, and he will also top 1500 yards for the second year in a row. The Rams just had no answer for Johnson who had 196 yards on 9 receptions. I think the Rams were lucky since they did keep Johnson out of the end zone. Since Ron Bartell only plays left cornerback the Texans lined up Johnson in the backfield, would send him in motion and could pretty much dictate what coverage they wanted. This forced Quincy Butler and Justin King to cover Johnson quite a bit. Matt Schaub was able to pick apart the Rams defense going 28 of 30 for 367 yards a TD and a QB rating of 107. Teams have picked apart the Rams defense all year.

On the downside the Rams simply lack enough talented players and playmakers to win many games. The Rams offense is just awful. I know we are on our third QB but maybe that is part of the problem. I am ready to watch a Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen, even if we have to go through growing pains. With only six wins in their last 46 games the Rams are already going through pains so let's rebuild. The more I watch DeSean Jackson the more aggravated I get watching Donnie Avery play. Avery was once again a non-factor with four catches for 32 yards. The Rams are in desperate need of a backup running back with breakaway speed. Kenneth Darby and Samkon Gado combined for six yards on four carries, they simply are not the answer and do not allow Steven Jackson to get any rest. The defense also needs some playmakers. James Laurinaitis was a good start, he is a tackling machine but still needs to work on his coverage skills. The Rams only have 20 sacks on the season and when Leonard Little is not playing they pose no threat. On Sunday Matt Schaub was able to complete 70 percent of his passes and was not sacked. The Rams again allowed the opponent to gain over 400 yards as the Texans gained 419 yards on the day.

Houston Texans @ St. Louis Rams Matchup

Rams. The high flying Houston Texans (6-7) are coming off their best performance of the season a 34-7 victory against the Seattle Seahawks. Those are the same Seahawks that have beaten the St. Louis Rams 10 straight times and outscored the Rams 55-17 this season.

At 6-7 Houston has an outside chance of finishing 9-7 and making the playoffs. Last week in their victory both sides of the ball were explosive. The offense rolled up 365 yards by halftime behind Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson. Andre Johnson is arguably the best WR in the game. Through 13 games he has 81 receptions for 1237 yards and 8 TDs. Schaub could be the best second tier QB in the NFL. He is posting great numbers this year, 324 of 473 for 3814 yards a 68.5 completion percentage and a QB rating of 98.2. On the ground the trio of Steve Slaton, Ryan Moats and Chris Brown have been disappointing but have combined for 10 rushing TDs. Slaton is also dangerous on of the backfield with 44 receptions. Look for the Texans to match him up against the slow Rams outside linebackers.

On defense the Texans are middle of the pack but are coming off their best game of the season last week against Seattle. Houston had an amazing 15 tackles for loss in their game last week. Look for more of the same this week as Mario Williams and company will try to break through the Rams patchwork offensive line to attack Steven Jackson and Keith Null. As great as we think James Laurinaitis has played with his 104 tackles, don't overlook the Texans first round draft choice Brian Cushing who has 112 tackles and 2.5 sacks. I thought last year Cushing could be the best pro of all of the USC linebackers that came out. With the Rams starting O-line of Barron, Greco, Brown, Setterstrom and Goldberg look for the Texans front 7 to manhandle the Rams. As if you want to see another piece of the puzzle the Rams are missing check out Bernard Pollard today. Pollard is the Texans Strong Safety who they picked up after the Chiefs threw him away. Pollard is the kind of hammer the Rams need. If Null hangs out Gibson or Avery today look for Pollard to lay a missile shot on them.

What can you say about the St. Louis Rams offense? The Rams are last in scoring and lately have had trouble getting to 200 yards of offense in a game. With injuries to the O-line, sickness among many of their starters, and Keith Null possibly starting don't look for things to get any better today. If Steven Jackson can not go because of his back injury and sickness the Rams will turn to Gado and Darby. If that happens the Rams may easily be shutout today. Even with Jackson in the game the Rams have score 10 or less points in seven of their thirteen games. On defense today I have no idea what the Rams can do. The front four is going to have to create a lot of pressure on Schaub or this one will be over early. At Free Safety the Rams are starting David Roach and at Right Cornerback Quincy Butler. The Rams do not move Ron Bartell around so Andre Johnson will be able to freely move to create the matchups they are looking for. I am sure Johnson is not afraid of the Bartell matchup but you have to think they will test and burn Quincy Butler all day. The Rams are several pieces short of having a decent defense and once you add the injury issue to that they are even worse. Only the Detroit Lions have allowed more points than the Rams this year.

Overall it is a good day to go see a team that the Rams rarely play. In addition you can see some great players like Johnson, Schaub, Williams, and Cushing. I plan the spend the day in the Bud Light Party Zone wondering why the Rams have not put pieces like this together? Dez Bryant and Colt McCoy, anyone?

Houston Texans @ St. Louis Rams Game Blacked Out

The Houston Texans vs. St. Louis Rams game will be blacked out this Sunday on local television. The St. Louis Rams have reported that several thousand tickets still remain for this weeks game. This is the second blackout for the Rams during the 2009 NFL season. The Rams will also have a very hard time selling out their remaining home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Rams Sign Offensive Tackle Ryan McKee

With the loss of Jacob Bell and Richie Incognito the St. Louis Rams are running low on offensive lineman. The Rams signed offensive tackle Ryan McKee to the roster on Tuesday. McKee is a 6'6" 290lb lineman from Southern Mississippi. McKee went undrafted during the 2009 NFL Draft but was signed as a free agent by the New York Jets. Ryan earned second team All-Conference USA honors twice and lead Southern Mississippi to the New Orleans Bowl as a senior. Ryan started 40 consecutive games in his career, and recorded more than 80 knockdown blocks as a senior.

Rams Place Jacob Bell On Injured Reserve

Most Rams fans already turned off the Rams game Sunday against the Tennessee Titans before Keith Null's 4th interception of the day. While the interception was in a 33-7 game was meaningless the play itself was not. As Tennessee Titans safety Vincent Fuller returned the interception for a TD, Jacob Bell gave chase and pulled his hamstring. The injury was severe enough for the Rams to already place him on injured reserve. So the Rams O-line already without Jason Smith will now also be without Jacob Bell and Richie Incognito for the rest of the 2009 season.

St. Louis Rams Finally Cut Richie Incognito

Tuesday the Rams finally cut OFFENSIVE Guard Richie Incognito. I guess Steve Spagnuolo does have more backbone than Scott Linehan. After watching Richie arguing with coach Spagnuolo on Sunday I had my doubts we would ever remove him from our roster.

The Rams drafted Richie in the 3rd round of the 2005 NFL Draft even though he was hurt and would not be able to play until 2006. While with the St. Louis Rams for 4+ years Incognito played in 44 games, at both Guard and Center. Richie known as a hot head has not disappointed while in St. Louis. Richie's two personal fouls Sunday in a 47-7 loss to the Tennessee Titans appears to have been the last straw.

Richie who should thank his lucky stars for the money and time he earned in St. Louis did not leave before saying these words;

"So in part, I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I get an opportunity to go play for a new team in a new city. I can get away from the negativity that has surrounded me, that has been surrounding my entire career here in St. Louis. So that I’m looking forward to.”

Well I will say what most Rams fans are thinking. Richie you come across as an idiot and as you walk away with that weight removed off your shoulders take a look back at us Rams fans, we all have out finger flipped up to say goodbye!

Jake Locker To Return To University of Washington

The Locker Is Closed

Many Rams fans want the St. Louis Rams to draft Jake Locker in the 2010 NFL draft to be the Rams franchise quarterback. Well those plans were shutdown on Monday when Jake Locker announced that he will return to the University of Washington for his senior season. Jake Locker is the top NFL QB prospects on most boards. Since Steve Sarkisian brought his NFL style offense to Washington, Locker has jumped to the top list of QB prospects. On Monday Locker said “After a great deal of careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Washington and play my senior year. I am very excited about this team’s opportunities and potential for the upcoming season and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”

This news will move Jimmy Clausen and Sam Bradford up on the Rams draft board. Will the Rams draft a new franchise QB, go with Suh, or even another OT like Russell Okung? At 1-12 many Rams fans are looking forward to rebuilding, and the NFL draft in April of 2010 needs to play a large part in that plan.

Winner By Knockout - Chris Johnson

The Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson showdown and Rams Titans showdown turned into more of an MMA first round knockout! It took Chris Johnson less than 12 minutes to produce 100+ total yards and two TDs to put the Titans up 14-0, and it was all over.

The Titans went on to roll up 446 yards in route to an embarrassing 47-7 thrashing of the St. Louis Rams. Chris Johnson managed to put up 186 total yards and three TDs. Steven Jackson who was obviously not at 100% again was kept in the game way too long. Jackson managed 47 yards on 19 carries and was stopped in the backfield most of the day.

Keith Null finally got into a Rams game today as the starting QB due to the injury to Kyle Boller. Keith managed to throw 5 INTs in a less than stellar performance. A late game garbage TD pass to Randy McMichael may be the highlight of his NFL career. Keith Null was 27 of 43 for 157 yards and a QB rating of 37.8. The Rams refuse to throw the ball downfield which the Rams 3.7 yards per attempt shows all to well.

If Steve Spagnuolo says anything to the media about the Rams effort, or how hard they try, or how they never quit, or how great they looked in practice I want every Rams fan to call the Rams office and complain. Hey Steve, we don't care win a game!!!

The Showdown - St. Louis Rams @ Tennessee Titans

With the St. Louis Rams 1-11 on the season there is no longer much excitement surrounding their games. However today's contest features an the top two running backs in the NFL going head-to-head.

Tennessee's Chris Johnson leads the NFL in rushing yards with 1509 yards on 244 attempts for an unbelievable 6.2 yards per carry average. In addition Johnson has 39 receptions for 322 yards. This puts Johnson clearly ahead of the pack with 1831 total yards from scrimmage and he has tacked on 10 TDs for good measure. I don't believe people really understand how good Johnson is. This is the NFL and for a running back to have pure breakaway speed is remarkable. Chris Johnson truly has the ability to score on any play. Johnson has a league leading seven 40+ yard rushes and nineteen of 20 yards or more.

Steven Jackson is the undisputed leader of the St. Louis Rams in 2009. As important as he is as a great running back he has been equally important as the new leader and face of the franchise. In numerous games this year Steven has said hop on guys it's time to pick it up. Unfortunately Jackson has been only able to lead the Rams to one victory. Jackson leads the NFC in rushing and is second in the NFL in rushing. With no passing threat it is amazing that Jackson has been able to put up 1232 rushing yards on a league leading 266 attempts. Jackson also leads the Rams in receptions with 44 for 267 yards. The biggest question for Rams fans is will the 400+ touches Jackson gets in 2009 effect his ability in 2010. The Rams need to find a backup speed back for 2010.

As for the game today these are two teams going in opposite directions. The Tennessee Titans come in winning five of their last six games, and still hold out hope for a playoff position. When Vince Young took over as QB for Kerry Collins the Titans started getting on a roll. The Titans have averaged 27 points per game with Young at the helm. Vince Young however has a knee injury which has kept him out of practice all week and made him a game time decision. With the playoffs on the line I look for Vince Young to find his way onto the battlefield today. Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt, and Nate Washington also are on the injury report for Tennessee today.

The St. Louis Rams are once again working on a losing streak which stands at four. The Rams have only one win on the season and only six in the last three years. This current team could be the worst in a long franchise history. Without Steven Jackson this team would be lucky to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Rams also have major QB issues, this week Kyle Boller's thigh injury could cause Keith Null to get the start on the road. This would not be a good place for Null to get his first NFL opportunity but you take what you can get. Many fans have wanted to see what Keith Null can do before 2010 gets here, today they may get their wish. With a lot of questions on offense and a growing injury list expect more of a very basic boring offense from the Rams who are dead last in scoring at 11 points per game.

The Rams continue to show they do not know how to win, and the Titans have to win today. Look for Chris Johnson to run all over the Rams today.

Steve Spagnuolo You Are The Head Coach

Unlike Scott Linehan or Jim Haslett I would like to let Steve Spagnuolo know that we already know he is the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. This seems obvious so why am I telling you? Because during the last 3 years we have watched the St. Louis Rams win only 6 of their last 44 games! Scott Linehan and Jim Haslett just wanted to keep their job so they were trying to play perfect and pick up some wins instead of trying to build a team and prepare the young players. Well Scott you were just made head coach at the start of the 2009 season. You are not going to get fired, you can try some things, coach up some of these players, take a risk once in a while. I feel compelled to tell you this because watching the St. Louis Rams is like watching paint dry. After their 17-9 loss to the Chicago Bears today the Rams have a nice four game losing streak going again. The Chicago Bears are playing awful football right now and with Jay Cutler at the helm they may soon break down and cry. This is a team the Rams could beat.

The Rams were in Bears territory 9 times today, and only managed to score 9 points. This may be the reason the Rams are dead last in the NFL in points scored. The Rams and Spagnuolo seem to have a goal to get to the other teams 35 yard line so they can set up as many 50 yard field goals as possible. The Rams had a total of only 233 yards today and were 2 for 14 on 3rd down conversions. One reason they may not convert on 3rd down may be the lack of trying. The Rams ran a draw on 3rd and 11 today, and many other times would throw the ball well short of the first down marker. Why, why can we not attempt to convert a first down, or score a TD in the Red Zone. This team is 1-11 and we want to play it as safe as possible. Steve, you are not trying to save your job, you are suppose to be coaching these players up and helping them win games. I have put way to much time, effort and money into the Rams to get excited about you telling me they had a good week of practice or that they are trying hard. Tell Pat Shurmur to turn the page everyone knows Steven Jackson will run up the middle on every first down. The other teams secondary know they never have to cover a deep ball and can play tight and break on every ball because nobody is going to make a double move and run past them.

Although the effort may be slightly better since you have arrived, the roster is worse, and the results are no better. It is time for the excuses to end and the wins to pick up. Just because your team is less talented than most or possibly all does not give you a free pass to lose every game. Sometimes the smaller less talented team can win, maybe we could actually have a game plan and outcoach the other team. Another top 5 draft pick is not going to cure all that ails these St. Louis Rams and neither is a 3rd and 11 draw play. Think about it.
